Doomed, we’re all doomed 😉
« on: December 10, 2019, 08:11:56 PM »
I’ve just been reliably informed that a “sound” camera has been installed somewhere near Reading. The fuzz say they’re not targeting bikes with it...hmm REALLY 😡

Tut, tut, you're not allowed to call it global warming anymore Michael, since the experts realised that actually things are not warming up anywhere nearly as fast as they suggested. It's called climate change now, just to keep the media frenzy going and to give the stupid something to protest about...

Heard a bloke from the U.N. the other day saying emissions were now nearly as high as they were millions of years ago. When we weren't even on the planet!! How about instead of panicing everyone they just admit we live on a rock that is billions of years old and it will change over time.

Not true I'm afraid Pete. In fact it's accelerating as recent figures from Greenland shows. You need to read serious scientific stuff rather than the daily mail....

As for Smithy - yes of course temperatures have been higher before, but as you say we weren't there to experience them. You will of course be aware of various mass extinctions....

It's not the temperature change as such which of course has happened before. It's the unprecedented rate of change. And the fact that it is, whatever dinosaurs like Nigel Lawson claim (and I'm not aware he has any scientific credentials) caused by human intervention.

One thing that makes me glad I'm old and that we never had kids. I'd hate to think what will happen to babies born this year when (if?) they get to my age. Of course in a few million years evolution will fill the gaps that humans leave. Probably with highly evolved rats and cockroaches.

I always wonder why bike forums attract people who despite the very well researched and documented facts insist that climate change / global warming / whatever you call it isn't happening.

I've done plenty of research Ian and the trouble is knowing what to believe. However, it's certainly true that what is presented as fact, ie. man made climate change, is certainly not a fact at all. There are far too many variables involved for even the most ambitious and up to date climate modeling software systems to predict the future, and indeed I don't think that any of them even agree with each other. The earth's climate has been in a constant state of change for 4 billion years.

I do think that its in mankind's best interest to look after the planet, but I object to the fact that if you challenge the acceptance of man made climate change, you're likely to get lynched by a baying mob.

Personally, I probably have a lower carbon footprint than most of the protesters. I've not owned a car for about 25 years, but instead have used bicycles and motorcycles as personal transport. If I'm on my own in the house and feel cold, I put a jumper on! I also only have 2 children and 2 grand children (and there won't be any more) so I haven't contributed to the population explosion which is the real issue facing the planet, but which environmentalists seem to be reluctant to point out for some reason.

And as for newspapers, I personally think the Victorians put them to the best use when they cut them into squares and hung them in the privy  ;D. I haven't read one for well over 30 years, but if I was to read one for any reason, rest assured it wouldn't be the Daily Wail!  :o ;D

This is probably not the place to have the debate so I suppose it's best just to agree to differ. I do maintain however that there is very little disagreement between the various models and what there is tends to err on the optimistic side.

I was watching a programme about the Little Ice Age the other day, a period when the Thames froze over for weeks if not months on end. The average temperature in the Northern Hemisphere were around 1 degree C lower than the thousand year average. Current global temperatures are 1.1 degree above the average.

I do actually agree about human population being the real issue and it is cited by many environmentalists but not, as you say, all.

Well I still don’t agree with “sound” cameras wether the planet is going to melt, implode, explode, freeze over or even flood....simply because,...to coin a phrase.... “LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES “ 😉😉

I defo don't like sound cameras cos when I'm on my bike I like to sing loudly inside my helmet (ooo er missus) and believe me it is criminal.

At least you're not disturbing anybody else Ian, unlike my stepdaughter who insists on singing at the top of her voice in the shower.  :o ;D ;D

Again, probably not the place to say this, but my friends wife stood as the Green candidate for one of the Redditch wards. Whilst I may not agree with the politics, anybody who has the guts to stand up for their beliefs like this (instead of sitting on the sidelines and moaning, like I do) has my admiration. She managed to quadruple their share of the vote too!

this planet is in a constant state of change, as are billions of others,.... it's the RATE of change that is concerning the 'experts' , previous  catastrophic changes such as the last 2 ice ages happened over thousands of years, we are now seeing dramatic changes in decades, even years..... that is the worry
