Just because I'm paranoid......
« on: August 11, 2017, 03:11:59 PM »
I guess we all go through times like this, at least I hope it's not just me!

A couple of weeks ago I phoned Wheelhouse Tyres here in sunny Brummy intending to go in and get a new pair of tyres fitted to the F650. They didn't have the tyres I wanted in stock, but said they'd have them by the weekend. No problem I thought, I'll just go and get them fitted then.

Last Friday the day before I was going to go and get them fitted, the bike fried it's VR on the way home from work.  >:(. £80 later, and after much buggering about cutting the alternator wiring back through the loom to reach a part that wasn't scorched and then repositioning the new VR and I'm back on the road  ;D. That was yesterday.

I went to the bike club last night and was telling the lads my story and said I was finally going to get my tyres this Saturday (tomorrow). The conversation then drifted on to punctures and I rather foolishly said I'd never had a puncture in 35 years of riding. You know what's coming next don't you - yep a rear wheel puncture this morning about 2 miles from home on the way to work.  >:(.

I managed to wobble back home - it's a bit like riding on ice really isn't it, and now have to remove the wheels myself and take the bl@@dy things to Wheelhouse in the back of the car. It's beginning to seem like I'm fated never to get new tyres.....

You probably went over the same lot of nails I did on the Arrow........

You're still welcome to borrow my tyre fitting frame.

Don't worry Pete you're not paranoid the bike is out to get you. It's an F650 that's what they do. Whatever you do don't think about what could go wrong next. Do that and it will. I know I've had 3 of them, they're tricky bastards. Born in Italy of German parents what do you expect.

Thanks for the advice and thoughts guys.

I took the wheels into Wheelhouse tyres and got two new Mitas E07's fitted, balanced, and a new rim tape for a shade over £150. Pretty damn good IMHO. I thought that the rear rim tape may have been damaged by the nail that went through the tyre, but as a test, I didn't mention it. I was impressed when they spotted the damage and suggested a new rim tape. Very impressed with the service and the price.

Now, what's going to go wrong next....... no, no, stop it, mustn't think like that, must be positive....

They are very good and their prices for the "classic" Mitas are much lower than other people's.

They're an offshoot of Central Wheel but I'm not sure if they're still under the same ownership.
