im a bit indiferent to this, whatever you think about the film and those featured in it, you have to remember that if the producers set out to prove that the country is overrun with bike gangs terrorising the public, then thats the story they tell. there have always been knobheads tearing round on bikes, i was once one of them, and i bet a lot of you were too, ok, back then it was a honda step thru on a dirt track or a small bike on an abandoned strip of tarmac. a generation before it was spotty oiks on bantams or rebels without a cause on a triton. its a media obsession, i mean, its not like they could make a show demonising gangs of black kids or asian teens, so it picks up on the next best thing, a gang of young bad lads with a non racial, non sectarian bond. its the turn of bikers again now, 5 years back it was minimotos, and 5 years earlier it was jet skis, in between its been car cruisers, unruly bmx riders, off road mountainbikers, you name it, its been a media story. and its really no worse or better than it has been before, aside from now, in the era of instant media, its easier to make anyone a devil or a genius at the click of a smartphone. ive had dealings with lads like this in the past, they were a pain in the arse, but they were mostly harmless, theyre just blowing off some steam, i think folks watch stuff like this and forget that they were ever young. and who here hasnt watched it and even if only a little, felt a pang of envy at their ability to loft the front wheel and hold it there as they carve through the traffic?
