Just astonished to find the resignation/sacking of an Italian football manager (albeit from a British national side) is lead story on the main BBC news at a time when, just for example,  a civilian city is being shelled, tensions are rising in the South Atlantic, countless countries are in financial crisis... have they employed a lot of ex tabloid journalists? Very sad...

I reckon Smudge is right, the news of a manager's departure doesn't justify the amount of attention it's been getting. As you can probably guess I'm not a fan of football  ;)

Yes but it doesn't colour my view on this matter, I'd be just as saddened if it were a Scottish manager.

I need to learn how to use smilies(is there a sarcastic one) or maybe edit my post to read 'You can't be English'

I'm Welsh and also don't give two effs' but it is the English coach and big English news. The world needs to know. ???

Hmm, I'll grant it's news, however only a football fan could possibly argue that it's "big" news.
That's maybe just me though  ;) I will confess to being heart sick of having (certainly in the area I grew up) constant media coverage of football being shoved down my throat to the exclusion of most other sports.
For any sport, to have half a main national news broadcast dedicated to a subject which will only affect a limited number of fans of that sport, I'm quite sure less than half the population of England, let alone the rest of the UK, whilst there are a great many "serious" issues affecting, or potentially affecting many more, is imho horribly innapropriate.
If a world champion motorsports participant was killed it wouldn't get a fraction of the coverage (for example Colin MacRae), why should football be different? The fact is a great many of us have absolutely no interest whatsoever in the sport and are sick of being told about it.

I would argue that whilst the world perhaps needs to know, that story should be with the rest of the sports news, after the non-sports stories!
(rant off)

No offence taken or intended btw  :)

My wife and I watched the Welsh game together. Neither of us really pay attention to the ruby but we thought it was an exciting match. When the first Scot got a yellow card I said to my wife "You know about football, now watch the rugby player's reaction to the card". She was astounded, no bumping of chests and histrionics, no appeals to God, the bench and the video monitor, no sullen walk off the pitch. And when the injured Welsh player returned to the pitch after being patched up she was equally amazed.

A great sport for all the right reasons... unlike Premiership football (imho).

Is that bitterness because Swansea are there and Cardiff aren't?

I'm only vaguely aware of that fact and much less interested in it  ;) I really don't do football

But as for Motogp - Rossi has some pace back so it's going to be a good year. Roll on Qatar.
