This is what they have given her to ride in the new film:

Absolutely 'on-trend' as they say, given the massive interest in caff-racerising 70s Hondas lately. (btw, you'll see a bike in the picture if you stop staring at the girl  ;))

And on Youtube there's film of the actress being taught how to ride it so she does do at least some of the riding shots.

Worth reading all three, I watched the Swedish made films and they have the lip synch on the English translated ones all wrong so if you head that way stick woith the Swedish and the subtitles.

I hope the Hollywood version is as good.

I am completely at a loss as to why they would remake the thing so soon after the Swedish films, which were of mixed quality from excellent to good.

This new Lisbeth will have to go some - the swedish girl was a textbook borderline - perfect!!

It was better with subtitles.  Also means you have to concentrate on the film and what is being said.

Really.

Nothing wrong with subtitles... They didn't stop me bawling my eyes out at Life is Beautiful (3 times Oscar winner after all).

And don't even start me on what Hollywood did to Nikita. In French a taut, dramatic, funny and moving thriller. In (US) English, another run of the mill sanitised piece of crap. After all the French version gave us our introduction to Jean Reno as 'The Cleaner'.

'Amelie' in English? can you imagine anything worse?

Talking of crying at films, I wasn't crying on Boxing day when I watched the bit in 'Senna' where he has just won his home GP, passed out in the car, endured agonising muscle spasms and then called his dad over to give him a hug, oh no, it was just something in my eye  ;)

Also got 'TT Closer to the Edge' for chrimbo (didn't everyone?) and enjoyed that enormously too.

GC you want a film that will reduce you to tears then try "the lives of others" a thriller set in the DDR with Martina Gedeck but it is the lead actor Ulrich Mühe who just steals the show. My misses, at least once year wants to rewatch it and she falls asleep and I sob my way through the last half an hour. It is for me the finest performance by any actor in any film I have seen!!

Unfortunately he died of cancer not long after the film was finished.

As for films bastardised by Hollywood try Mostly Martha another Gedeck film (yes I am a bit of a fan..what red blooded thinking male wouldn't be) Remade with Catherine Zeta Jones....enough said.

Speaking of subtitles anyone here a fan of Julio Medem's work, quirky but excellent, although his last one "A room in Rome" was a bit OTT

I'm more of a Wallace and Gromit fan myself.   ;D

The Tiger Cub and Chair in A Close Shave was pretty good.
I think the chair could have looked a bit more like a Bambini though.
Mind the A35 van looks bloody good in A Matter of Loaf and Death.

Not seen any. What titles should I look out for?

'Room in Rome', where art and porn come together.

50/50 chance I might like it. ;D

Some films are far better with subtitles, eg Das Boot (The proper full 2 disc mini series), although the dubbing was done by the actors, the English language version loses an awful lot of the impact.
