Aye beezer764,
I am quoting from the SRX600 Owners Manual.

"When checking the oil level, do not screw the oil level gauge (dipstick) into the oil tank. Insert the gauge lightly (rest it on the orifice!). Check with the machine held upright. If the oil level is between the minimum and maximum level lines on the gauge, you may start the engine. If there is no oil on the gauge, add oil so that it reaches the minimum level.
Start the engine and warm up until the oil temperature rises to approximately 60C (140F). Oil filter housing and external cases are 'hot' to touch! "OUCH!"

Idle the engine for a further 10 seconds, whilst keeping the machine upright. Then stop the engine and check the oil level on the gauge whilst the machine is upright.
Adjust the oil level to the maximum level line."
I'd have thought 2.1litres would have been fine. Make sure you prime the oil filter chamber by the method outlined by SteveH or by engaging a gear and pushing it about until the oil comes out the bleed bolt hole on top of the housing.
Capacities listed for the European machines without an oil cooler are: "Total volume = 2.4litres, Periodic oil change = 2.0litres, With oil filter replacement = 2.1litres, Oil tank capacity = 1.8litres."
All the best and have a grand Xmas, with a healthy 2012.

My regards, Bill.
