3 wheeled Crusty?
« on: December 04, 2011, 10:49:34 AM »
Have sort of been biten by the "outfit" bug. Thinking along the line of the 2013 Elephant and Taurentreffen on 3 wheels so i have a better chance of getting home alive. Also as i do a lot of bike rallies all year round the extra carrying space would be usefull. Sarah my girlfriend loves riding in a sidecar so seems to be a win win situation.
Have no clue what would be suitable or viable and no idea how to get on the German rally scene so any comments or suggestions and or hints would be helpfull.
Any further down this road and i will be buying a Land Rover (as if i dont already see enough of the feckin things as i work at the factory...) and cooking on a stove that is older than me,
Crusty.
(Bring it on..... ;))

Cross the channel then straight on for 200miles or rather 320kms. ;)

Well done Crusty, this'll be good to see.

Keep us updated. ;D

Hi mate, i did sort of get the gist of getting over or under the channel then a bit further along, I was hoping for some details of how to get tickets for the Elephant and i understand that the Tourentrffen is invite only. Dont really wantt og all that way just for one rally. Any ideas as to what bike/chair combo would be best. Dont really want to spend the earth till i find out if 3 wheels are for me or not.

Thanks Julian for the kind offer of a ride on your beast, (no comments from 002 or Boyd please  ;D) I know i will have to start off slowly, hence to post for any advice and hints. I will not get rid of the Tiger as i still want the option of just going out on a solo bike when i want. Just that i fancy that "fuck it, pack it" option you sidecar guys seem to have with what you can bring to a weekend meeting. Also i like the friendly attitude of the guys that turn at the rallies i go to on outfits. Not that the two wheeled bikers are unfriendly.... LOL

Tiger and chair needs a subframe, and leading link forks.  May be to start, a lightish sidecar, on a bike with a tubular frame.  Then if you don't like it, not too much outlay.

Cheapest option is usually to buy a ready constructed outfit, as the cost of fittings etc can be expensive.

Hedingham sidecars are nice, so are Wasp, Watsonian/Squire are the most plentiful but quite dated designs.

Continental touring needs a bike with plenty of power to cruise easily at 100-120 kph, unless light chair.

Give us your ideal bike and I am sure many people will offer advice. ;D

LOL, yeah, that magic "er... how do we put our tents up?" moment when we all just stood there looking clueless.

Followed, for me and Simon, a few hours later by the less amusing "bollocks, our sleeping bags are rubbish" moment.

I've seen that one, or one identical in Chepstow. Looked bloody lovely.
