lovely fzr 400 42 mm forks. front end was an absolute doddle to fit. standard ssrx headrace bearings, used the bottom race from the old ball bearings as a spacer on the bottom yoke under the lower tapered set and the spindle length works out fine.

tasty standard top yoke. it will get pollished by the time i finish this :)

more pics :)

airbox in. yes that is another srx in the background. rebuilding both in tandem.

Front end with wheel fitted

Back end on. standard 18" fzr wheel pictured since been removed. had to stretch the swing arm a bit to get this to fit

Rolling front end

Rolling back end.

At the moment i can't get far enough away to get a good enough picture :)
put the tank on and it looks something like this:

and now to bring it all up to date

400 bandit rear wheel fits almost perfectly. chain alignment is perfect. standard bandit wheel spacers with the standard yamaha caliper mount work very well, but not as well as........

GS 500E rear wheel standard GS spacers with srx caliper mount slide in like a greased weasel.

caliper has two 10mm spacers i made up to offset the caliper the correct amount from its mount. stock srx caliper does not work because the banjo bolt now hits the mount. switched to the fzr rear caliper as the banjo is on top. much happier with the prospect of a 17" rear rather than 18", plus the bandit rear disc is much bigger than the fzr item by about an inch or so :)

they would be fzr 400 1wg (genesis) forks and bottom yoke with 600 diversion top yoke. had to shelve that idea because i dont have the right discs at the moment. >:( yokes line up perfectly though.

and here she is..........

ostill need to sort out the electrickery for lights and such like, and get the headlight sorted out properly. also got to fab up a fork brace to mount the apprilla rs50 front mudguard on, and beef up the rear light mount a bit cos its a bit wobbly at the moment. dead chuffed so far thought :)

just realised i haven't posted here in a while. progress has been a little slow since my last post, mainly due to the old job petering out and not paying very well, and starting a new job which means i have a few readies to spend on the old girl, but alas no time. progress since last post is as follows:

frame stripped to bare metal and painted satin black
swingarm stripped to bare metal and painted silver
rear shocks stripped cleaned and painted gloss black
front forks cleaned up and painted matching silver to the swingarm
shot blaster purchased and prototype cabinet constructed for blasting allthe crud off the engine

hopefully i'll find the bluetooth thingy soon and be able to put up some pictures.
