Weekend Debrief

Nothing too bikey this weekend, but I did drop off my repaired GB500 hub, the spokes and rim to the wheelbuilders to see if they can lace it up again (the hub had accident damage and cracked after the recent attempt to re-lace it).

Spent the day at the beach with the kids yesterday and then detoured to Barry Island on the way home for some more beach lolling. It's trading off its Gavin and Stacey link big style, but all good fun, in a tacky Blackpool-on-the-Bristol-Channel sort of way.

Today I took my boys up to my friend Andy's farm and then off to yet another kid's party. Missed the GP, but I just watched moto2 on the iPlayer. Blimey what a race  :o

Off to the pub tonight with my old riding buddy Martin. He was the guy I rode with in the first few riding years and we still keep in touch. He was always waaaay faster than me and last weekend at a race day at Ty Croes (in the ACU class) he was getting his frame blobs down! The talented git. He's never shown any discernible fear on a bike and he's the only bloke I know who has crashed because he rode his crosser into the top of a tree (it's true, I saw it).

Anyone else have any adventures? How was the Wetton trip?

Nowt bikey this weekend either, spent all saturday fettling the garden.....really into growing most of our own veggy....and it's all looking good, just hoping i can beat the usual potato blight.
sunday went to a friends 50th! wedding anniversary....bluddy good do, loads of (good) wine and (even better) beer + lashings of grub, and the speeches were half decent too....
Always handy when SWMBO volunteers to drive.. ;D....not so handy when she managed to turn too soon out of their drive and promptly caved the drivers door in of (thankfully) her car against a sodding great oak gate post  >:(...

And it was most inconsiderate of said friends to have their get together on the day that Lotus were parading EVERY Lotus F1 car (including the reborn Lotus GP cars) ever made, at Snetterton....I'm no F1 fan....but I and a fan of Colin Chapmans achievments....he was a great intuitive engineer.....(I include his work on the DeLorean.....even if it was a money making scam  ;) )

As one commentator put it....the last time he saw such a long queue for Snetterton race circuit was when he was waiting to get in to see Barry Sheene at the Race of Aces over 30 years ago!

A very good, but physically tough weekeknd had here.

Set off on Thursday night to complete a 5 peak challenge walk which took in Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike, Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen-Y-fan followed by a 35 mile hike [at night] down the Taff Trail to Llantrisant. That's the three highest peaks in Britain followed by the three highest peaks in Wales. Sadly, at 7:00am on Sunday morning the support team [wifey] had to be summoned as three walkers, including me couldn't continue. We walked for 8 hours and got as far as Abercynon before the lack of sleep and sore joints got the better of us. One man made the entire trip back alone, but the walk from Abercynon to Llantrisant took him another 6 hours. By this point I had been awake for 96 hours with only cat naps in the minibus between hills. If all that lot wasn't madness enough, the group carried a rowing machine up every hill!

Great trip with perfect weather and loads of great memories. Feet are sore, but no blisters and the rest of the body doing OK. The lack of sleep got to me more than the physical effort. At one point I was litterally 'sleep walking', and seeing things in the trees and along the track. Walking the dog this morning was a gentle affair though and I'm not up to jogging for a few days.

Well, I managed to get the MuZ out and joined some others for a spin thru the Perth Hills.
The ride leader was abourd a cruiser and 2 up while most of the others were the usual variety of Trumpies and Hondas and Beemers. Te MuZ kept embarrasing me by continually dropping back and then blasting forward thru the bends until I caught up again . There is something ANAL about a ride leader who sits at 10 kph under the speed limit (70kph) on a road that was designed to handle 100, but due to high bike/ sports car usage a great revenue raiser for the local Govt.  Apart from freezing my ankles off, I parted company after an hour or so and went to the markets with nSWMBO

Not very exciting. Bricklaying, finished welding the pannier frames for the SRX and we seem to have been adopted by a lost racing pigeon, which spent most of the weekend watching me building my wall.

Wife and three children had gone to an American Civil War re-enactment event in Leics to fight for the Union, I have decided to go with the Confederates myself when I am next able to attend.

That left me working evenings on Saturday so succesfully managed to finish the allotment shed on Sunday, before going for a pub lunch with my oldest son.  Oysters Mornay to start followed by more traditional fare and a pint of elderflower flavoured ale.  Yummy.

Nothing bikey sadly.  Day off today as well so I have been spending it on displacement activity to stop me writing a piece on Arab nationalism which I really have to put to bed now.

I really need much much more time off so I can catch up on everything and get more of the bikes actually working.  Even the Beemer has decided to leak some oil.
