A very good, but physically tough weekeknd had here.
Set off on Thursday night to complete a 5 peak challenge walk which took in Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike, Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen-Y-fan followed by a 35 mile hike [at night] down the Taff Trail to Llantrisant. That's the three highest peaks in Britain followed by the three highest peaks in Wales. Sadly, at 7:00am on Sunday morning the support team [wifey] had to be summoned as three walkers, including me couldn't continue. We walked for 8 hours and got as far as Abercynon before the lack of sleep and sore joints got the better of us. One man made the entire trip back alone, but the walk from Abercynon to Llantrisant took him another 6 hours. By this point I had been awake for 96 hours with only cat naps in the minibus between hills. If all that lot wasn't madness enough, the group carried a rowing machine up every hill!
Great trip with perfect weather and loads of great memories. Feet are sore, but no blisters and the rest of the body doing OK. The lack of sleep got to me more than the physical effort. At one point I was litterally 'sleep walking', and seeing things in the trees and along the track. Walking the dog this morning was a gentle affair though and I'm not up to jogging for a few days.
