« on: January 15, 2010, 05:30:23 PM »
My days of twin cylinder ownership are over and I'm returning to thumperhood. Just bought a XT600E (2003) ;D ;D ;D

All I've read on line seems to be good, do you lot know anything I should know?? (bare in mind, I've bought it lads so temper any horror stories please)

The exhaust is made of papier mache, but that apart it'll make you grin!

I think Pat found the bars far too wide on the VX...

What's happened to the VX?

I know what you're thinking - the Dragon is fast approaching, buy the VX off Pat, gaffer tape the sidecar to it, sorted! Just because you now have some space in your garage doesn't mean you need to re-fill it.

Nothing really, it was just trying to ride it in the winter that fried my swede. Sooo long and sooo heavy really played havoc with my confidence. This was the first winter ever that snow has kept me off two wheels. Got round to remembering why I've had so many small(ish) capacity singles and what I liked about trailies (even stuck wide bars and bark busters on the VX for gods sake) She did play up last week, but Jethro and I diagnosed stale fuel from where she'd been garaged for so long. Sad. Plan is to clean her up and whack her on ebay to try and recoup some of the costs of the XT.

So it's back to minimist camping at the Dragon for me then (sigh). ::)

Nice one Smudge, made me chuckle ;D

Right then, just bought the XT home from Swansea keeping to the M4 as 1) it's chucking it down. 2) see what it'll be like on the commute. 3) it's absolutely chucking it down! First impressions are  ;D ;D ;D like it, like it, like it! Very different from the VX and felt gutless to start with (which by comparison it is), but if it's allowed to rev a bit higher the moter pulls well enough. 60mph was its happy speed on the motorway, but it could hold 70 if asked and had plenty of revs left to go. Came into it's own when we got off the motorway and entered Talbot by the back roads. So much easier to turn than the VX and so much better at popping into little spaces when filtering. Give it some nice weather and a narrow 'A/B' road and it'll be grins all the way. Did feel odd to be back to being perched up high, ontop of the bike rather than low and stretched over one, but the view down the road is great from up there. ;D Produro sounds nice too and gives a lervly punchy pop pop pop as you roll it on.
Think we'll get on fine, but the true test will be the run to the Dragon I suspect.
