Belstaff material is not at all exclusive to belstaff. The material belstaff uses is what british millerain call (CHERA 6).
The weight is 270 grams per meter and cost £4 per linear meter. this can be checked out with british millerain.
CHERA 6 is made to order (ONLY) when they stock has ran out but anyone can purchase a 50m roll from british millerain at the moment.

Claymore Jackets are made from CHERA 8 which is 375 grams per meter. The difference in price between the two materials is a grand price of 25p per meter.
Claymore Jackets are all made to order and will stand up to belstaff any day of the week. The quality control of claymore is much harsher than belstaff because there a very small company and are just starting out.

I see that there's a couple of links for some cheap wax cotton motorcycle jackets for £59 on ebay in the forum, these sellers state that there made in england. I aways remember Delboy asking what he could smell, (BULL*******). These jackets are 100% made in china. it takes 15 hours alone to make a wax cotton belstaff style jacket. these people offer free postage and have to pay ebay and paypal fees on top. its not rocket science. The wonder of ebay!!.

Hi There

Thanks for that I stand corrected and better educated.

Sound comment on the £60 'Made in Britain' jackets.  Also the point on the 15 hours to make a jacket gives some indication as to the reason why quality kit costs.

Thanks again

Just had a nice mail from Carl Wilson of Claymore stating that they were a small company making them to order and couldn't supply any to dealers for viewing.

Wonder if we know anybody who has one ?

So, how do they justify offering an option for a Claymore jacket with a Belstaff label in it for an additional £5 ?.......  :-\
that don't seem right to me ???

Gullible Italian women?

Business is business in the 'rag trade', my Grandfather was in it, running a tailoring factory and some of the tales are not for this forum!

However, I shall be keeping a 'watching brief'. Oh, by the way.........! ::)

Its sad really, we sell more jackets with the belstaff logo's than with our own labels.
99% of people still want to be associated with belstaff rather than a new brand.
they quite happy wearing the new brand but they don't want anything to do with the brand name itself.
UK culture i suppose. (GOT TO HAVE THAT KNOWN BRAND NAME TO IMPRESS PEOPLE). To me, it just show's me how stupid people can be.
Thats how i justify charging a fiver for the belstaff logo's, cheap at half the price when you think about it!!.
i will purchase your jacket as long as its got someone elses logo on it???????.
sad world we live in.

I couldn't agree more, and motorcyclists are particularly brand susceptible.

So hurry up and finish Pats jacket so I can have a look and decide to buy one.  I'll have a Claymore though.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, don't Belstaff mind ?  You see a lot of Belstaff listings on Ebay that disappear half way through the listing.  I always assumed they came from the Far East & were copies & that someone cared.

ebay is full of fake belstaff and other brands, this is how ebay got where it is today by allowing this. even now ebay themselfs will not take a listing down unless you are part of there VERO programme. (rights owner). basically any brand name on ebay has to be treated with caution, from a gas lighter to a tin of paint. 99.9% of people don't have a clue what they are buying and never will but there's always that one who does. the vast market in fakes has to be bigger than the genuine items.

Anyone thinking about these chequeredflags,,,,,ain't this the same as the one on ebay for £49.99. MADE IN CHINA. I see the same white silk scarf in the picture and its an identical jacket!!!.. check the 2 links out below.

same identical jacket as chequeredflags

I hope you have a great big scarf for that gap in the neck

I'll be holding off buying my wax jacket until I see the results here.

Claymore is talking the talk, should be a good jacket.

What is the discount for TC members?

Just have to be satisfied with being a trend setter - oh and the free jacket that apears about Christmas, with thanks, for all the trade push their way through here.

We could give the jacket to GC and he could store it in his Garage and then sell it in 5 years time, or give it to me and I could take it apart with great plans to put Drizabone sleves and Barbour collar onto the base, and never get round to it....

I am also interested in seeing the outcome

Well my jacket's arrived and I'm very pleased. The quality of the needlework is excellent and it feels like a solid, robust piece of kit. Can't say about the weatherproofing as I managed to dodge every shower today ::).

The other thing to mention is the service offered. Did have an issue with the collar being tight. Carl was a star. No hassle, no arguement, just sent the jacket back and he turned it around in under a week (the neck size is not a measurement you are asked for when ordering BTW). Even sewed on a club badge on the sleeve FOC.

I ordered the mojave jacket, which is short and fitted and might not be to everyones liking. Can't say about the other styles other than I have no doubt about the quality.

Bring on the rain ;D
