Yes I did !  :)
The weekend of his Breakfast/Shed Meet.
I reverted back to my old job of being a Courier/Dispatch Rider.
All I needed was "Dis Rat". Matt Black 550 Ltd with MZ headlamp and tail light, apes, sissy bar, barn type tool box straped on the back,Fat Bob rear fender mounted the correct way, flouresant orange engine and home made exhaust. After rebuild must have done 40+thousand miles on that. After 100thou on my 550F i had from new.God knows how many miles I did on the assortment of MZ 250s I had at the time.
Good Days ! Some Bad,wouldnt want to do it now !

Delete 550F replace with GS550, delete MZ250 insert Z200 (amongst others) and Amen to that!! Had to ride through the centre of town the other day and was stunned how out of practice I am compared to what I used to be like  :o
Despatching is a laugh (mostly) when you are young and 1. bounce well 2. can deal with the cold and 3. have no significant responsibilities... it's no way to make a living though  ;D

100,000 miles in one year* stopped me enjoying riding bikes for a couple of years after that. I still have to be in the right mood to enjoy a really long run. Don't make your hobby into a job, it ruins it!!

*really, no b*****it, I was working all year without a break, some weekends as well and generally averaged 2,000+ miles a week  :o you do a monthly service every Saturday and replace the bike every six months because they just fall apart. It starts fun then just descends into a grind, but you're full of adrenaline all day so the work is ok in the summer and just a habit in the winter. Coffee to get you going in the morning then the recreational drug of your choice in the evening (like beer officer) to calm you down enough to sleep (well fall unconcious actually) explains how I look nowadays lol

Yup, the gs550 was like that, ran and ran until it was destroyed in a crash. I also claim exemption from (re)doing Iron butt rides!! My worst/best day started about 4am with some easy runs I'd "earned" by previous good deeds for the controller (ie doing lots of sh**ty jobs without complaining) followed by a busy town day (in Edinburgh) which was broken up by and Aberdeen and two Glasgows(!). All set to knock off at about 6 when I got offered a run to a city down south of England (forget which one). Well I had to stop for a kip on my way back, because I'd been in the saddle for over 24 hours and I was hallucinating  :o got back home about eight, eight thirty and called the controller to say I wouldn't be in that morning. 1500+ miles in about 28 hours  ::)
Absolute madness, probably couldn't do it now even if I wanted to!!

Hallucinating!  I remember well, some real strange ones, eg. All the traffic coming down the opposite of the motorway at night, turning into a block of flats with all the windows lit up?

Another favourite was hitting the brakes when spotting Bruce Willis hanging on to the front of a speedboat about a hundred yards in front of me!

The scary one was whilst riding up the M1 in the middle lane in heavy traffic, I leant right over to my left, trying to reach the road map which was in the pocket on the back of the passenger seat (of my car?). God knows what the other vehicle drivers thought I was doing.

One of my despatch rider mates used to see Mary Poppins pushing a pram  run across the road in front of him.

Strange how you hallucinate the same thing many times over??? (one for the trick cyclist?)

My scariest was a *huge* emergency stop that I called off half way through when I realised the Artic that I'd seen starting to pull out a side road in front of me didn't exist... and neither did the side road  :o
A sure sign you're an idiot and should be asleep!!  :-[
