Weekend Debrief

I had quite a good weekend all in all.

Saturday was fairly relaxed and in the late afternoon I mooched over to my friend Andy's farm. We set off in his Landy to deliver some supplies to another cider maker (Andy has branched out into cider making) and on the return trip we visited three pubs, each about ten miles apart. The scary thing was, he knew his way around the first pub (miles from where he lives) and in the other two they knew him by name.  ::)

We were back at his farm by 9.00 and he cooked up a storm and we drank beer and talked nonsense until the early hours.

I had an early start on Sunday to get back to the house in time for wifey to go to work. It was a quiet day with some visitors, but in the early evening I got a call asking for some assistance in setting up a sidecar on my mate's XS1100. After a tussle with the toe-in we thought it should be test ridden. It was too light with just the sidecar chassis to ride safely so Rob put a plank across the rails and sat on that as ballast. All went well until we made a sharp left hand turn and the diagonal struts gave up the ghost. The bike leaned out and stayed out. We pushed it back to his workshop and he made plans to get the struts altered. It probably should have been a scary moment, but we we ended up laughing our heads off.

Tonight is a quiet night and I watched the final episode in this series of Gavin and Stacey... bloody marvellous telly. Anyone else watching it?

Cheers

We discovered that Rob was using Metric Fasteners,so were too small, and the studs he made werent long enough
The Two arms were far too short, and trying he did try putting the rear one in the wrong place !

I managed some bike maintenance!

Oil & filter change on the SRX. I swear more came out than I put in. Maybe when I had my leaky petrol tap that made the carbs overflow I had some juice go down the barrel too?? Hope not, as petrol doesn't make a good bearing lubricant.

I kicked the tyres too and checked the chain.

I also ordered (finally) my new tyres for next weekend when they will be fitted. New fork oil next week too. Gosh, spring has sprung and I am tarting the old beast up a bit.

Also had three interesting meetings with friends I haven't seen for a while. One on Friday (by phone), one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Most peculiar how it was one a day for three days. Arranged a greasy cafe visit with one of them so that will be good.

Oh, nearly managed to get my hair cut, again. Last cut was December '07 so my monthly treat has failed to materialise. Ho hum.

I worked.. PM shift, so I slept too. In my waking hours, I tinkered with a soft restoration of a Suzuki GR650.  Got the Engine out Saturday before going to work... AHHH work, the curse of the riding man.

I'm not sure how I offended anyone by suggesting that Rob was building a nice outfit, or by saying that Jethro had been generous in donating parts, but I've removed my posts anyway.
