We were sat on Christmas Day and my lil boy (5) declared that Grandad Jack could not die, we were about to explain that he could when he continued, that he was part of Mummy and Aunty Jackie and Uncle Jon, and through them part of him and his brother and his two cousins. Sort of stumped us that one...
Mind if WW2 had not ended whan it did we may not have had them here - he was an aircraft fitter / mechanic, with a particular skill for radial engines - loved them to bits he did - but had been transferred to the team that looked after Lord Mountbatten of Burma's plane - could not understand why as it did not have radials on it - must have been a good mechanic, after quite a time he was getting bored of this and the chance came to sign-up to what now would have been called 'Special Forces" - they were to be trained how to look after themselves and then be dropped behind Japanese lines to either steal or immobalise their aircraft

- as he said - they had not thought about it but any planes they got started the pilots would have flown to safety, whilst he and the other spanner monkeys were left to look out for themselves and steal important bits of engine or airframe. Thankfully the war ended whilst they were still being trained for this 'adventure'

Still onwards and upwards.
