Some positive thinking please guys....
« on: December 24, 2007, 12:02:04 AM »
Just packing up Christmas into bags to head off to Inlaws, was not supposed to be going - and Jen has gone earlier with the boys leaving me to sort the brakes on her car.  Her dad has been taken into hospital and is being operated on on Christmas Eve - the Drs say he has a 25% chance of surviving the op - if they do it at all.

So lots of positive thoughts please and a few glasses raised to "Jack" would not go amiss.

He has some wonderful tales about riding a "Woller" (spelling) - which only needed one spanner to completely strip and how his old Norton would not make Porlock Hill two up, so Mother in Law had to get off and walk up, etc  None of you have heard them, so get get those glasses raised and some positive thoughts out to an old biker who needs some support.

Speak to you all soon.

Rog, if you'd posted this a little earlier I would have had a glass ready to raise. As it is I shall do so tomorrow after finding a quiet corner. Please wish your Jen (and her Dad of course) all the very best.

That Wooler  you mentioned, I wonder if it was one like this:

Best wishes Rog, to you and your family. I'll raise my Christmas Eve beer (the one we leave out for Santa) to you later.
Take care,
Dave B

Thanks all for your wishes.

We were all shocked but at 4 am Boxing Day, the piston seized, or the rod threw or something and Jens dad died - however all your hard galss raising was not in vain as three of his grandsons had Christmas day together and pressies.  AS his misses said - if it had not been for Jack being in hospital, we would have had a really good Christmas, so many of us together and she (mrs Jack) on fine form - she had been ill for many years and had just got over it herself.

Yup the Wooler was like the one in the pic.  Mrs Jack has said she will dig out some photo's of his bikes for me - she was chatting about them today - apparently she thought the Thunderbird was the best, whilst he really liked his BSA Goldstar - she did nto - too high at the back - mind he did chuck that one up the road...  ooops

No1 Son and I went to see him in the CHapel today and he looked real peaceful - just as if he was sleeping - mind we knew he was not - if he was the room would have been shaking from the snoring.

Not the outcome I was hoping for - but seeing as he was such an active guy - still canoeing and cycling at 86 - and from time to time trying to convince Mrs Jack to allow him another bike - was eyeing up a Speedtwin in a local bike shop only 6 to 8 months ago, so to crash and burn in 8 days was really a blessing - but would prefer the old bugger to still be here.

Blather on soon

Sorry to read Jack didn't make it Rog.

I'm sure the zest of the man in your epitaph continues.

Slainge, Bill.

I did manage to find a quiet corner in the Legion on Christmas Eve to raise my glass to Jack....funny really, I really thought it was an apt place to be at the time. I am so glad that all of you found comfort in each others' company and managed some humour at such a sad time, a good sign. Jack is still with you all you know. As I know my Mum and Dad are still looking out for me.
All the very best to you all,
Bill.

We were sat on Christmas Day and my lil boy (5) declared that Grandad Jack could not die, we were about to explain that he could when he continued, that he was part of Mummy and Aunty Jackie and Uncle Jon, and through them part of him and his brother and his two cousins.  Sort of stumped us that one...

Mind if WW2 had not ended whan it did we may not have had them here - he was an aircraft fitter / mechanic, with a particular skill for radial engines - loved them to bits he did - but had been transferred to the team that looked after Lord Mountbatten of Burma's plane - could not understand why as it did not have radials on it - must have been a good mechanic, after quite a time he was getting bored of this and the chance came to sign-up to what now would have been called 'Special Forces" - they were to be trained how to look after themselves and then be dropped behind Japanese lines to either steal or immobalise their aircraft  :o - as he said - they had not thought about it but any planes they got started the pilots would have flown to safety, whilst he and the other spanner monkeys were left to look out for themselves and steal important bits of engine or airframe.  Thankfully the war ended whilst they were still being trained for this 'adventure'  :)

Still onwards and upwards.
