More woes with this project.
I got the carbs back on and tightened the clips with the new screws but the thing still wouldn't start and would only fire using Easy Start.
My mate diagnosed stuck floats from debris in the old fuel pipes.
Tank tap and pump can be ruled out as I was poring fuel directly in to the carb fuel rail.
I've also fitted a new fuel filter as a matter of course.
I removed the carbs and took them over to my friend on the 650 Interceptor when we had a brief but lovely few days of great weather.
He serviced them again and blew everything out with compressed air.
Over the weekend I've been struggling to refit the throttle cables as I can't seem to get enough free play.
Anyway they're on now.
I've got some new correct style of  caps for the deeply recessed spark plugs so we'll see if the thing can fire up now?

Thanks for the interest and encouragement Michael 😊
Update: on Monday I fired it up with a remote fuel supply into the carbs and it ran well.
So I refitted the air box, reconnected the fuel lines, pump tank  and filter but when I tried to start it yesterday there was a leak from one of the fuel lines. I'd used the original jubilee clip but using the correct fuel pipe fasteners cured it.
I managed to get it running again on all 4 cylinders and it ticks over as well.
The next problem is the indicators have packed up. This has already happened once and was fixed with a new correct spec relay. I'm guessing in putting it back together I've disturbed the wiring, the connections are not great so I'll need to trace that through again as the relay is under the left side panel which could have been affected when I refitted it

Unspoilt by progress as a local brewery used to say. But you're getting there by the sound of it. Good luck. I hope you like it when it's done, unlike my single foray into the 4 cylinder world. Nasty buzzing little (or big) things.....

Thanks Ian.
Fuel leak is back .
Banks' brewery was it? Beer at home means Davenports was another.
I'll have to wait and see if I like it. If it's a gutless wonder that has no torque unless you absolutely thrash it probably not. I've had quite a few four cylinder bikes over the years. The old air cooled 400/4 Honda wasn't too bad. My last Honda 4 was a 96 CBR600 which never ran right so I should have been warned.

My friend worked on the bike earlier this week and got it running as it should.
Some previous owner had put the throttle cable mounting bracket on upside down! Now  at least I know why I couldn't get any free play on the cables and why I had to remove the right side clip on from the fork leg to even be with a chance of getting the twistgrip back on. He had to clean the pilot jet on one pot again but with new plugs and fresh fuel directly into the carbs it ran like a good 'un once he'd set his vacuum gauges on them.
The fuel pump is now causing problems. A PO had fitted a Chinese replacement but someone had also wired the pump direct without a cut off relay so if there had been an accident fuel would have continued to pump with obvious safety implications.
I've ordered the missing parts off eBay so my friend will be doing some rewiring once I've received them.
I feel a little out of my depth here, perhaps a bit like a certain Mr. Cole needing to call on more expert guidance.

Who ya gonna call? The ghost busters? …..NOT, ya gonna call Mr A Millyard 😁👍
Joking aside Martin, you certainly seem to have had your work cut out with this one, however it seems like you’re finally getting there with it and the light is at the end of the tunnel at last🤞🤞
Cheers, Michael

Yes Allen Millyard has been mentioned quite a few times with this project. I'm sure he'd have got it licked into shape on day one. For a mere mortal like me that's just not possible but fortunately I have good friends I can rely on when I get out of my depth

Yes, you can’t beat having a couple of mates help you out. Not only is any problem halved but also great to have a bit of a laugh along the way 👍😁

My friend worked on the project again yesterday.
He finally got it running correctly after rewiring the fuel pump, refitting the cut out relay and disposing of the cheap aftermarket pump which the PO had fitted and substituting an OE type with new points.
We then had to fit some new O rings to the fuel rail which had sprung a leak.
We ran out of time to look fully into why the indicators only work intermittently as once again the carbs had to come off, be stripped and rebuilt and adjusted after fitting the now O rings.
