Running XTZ 660 and on checking oil yesterday noticed very slight emulsion on inside top of dip stick was thinking is this start of head gasket going or due to start of cold weather condensation . only done 16500 miles, will keep an eye on it was going to change oil in about a month anyhow . any idea or experience ? .  ???

if the bike is used for short journeys and doesn't get up to a decent temprature then the oil won't get hot enough to get rid of the water in it.
get it good and hot and see if it still has white snot in it, if so then its taking in water. this would have to coinside with the coolant level dropping to be water from the cooling system entering the oil.

Recently only been doing the 6 mile to work run so ill try and give her a good run at weekend , checked water level which appeared normal . Its a very cool running bike which never seems to get too hot and never had the fans coming on .Usually warm up for 3-4 minutes before going out but even then temp needle just starting to rise .

My SZR660 had a similiar problem. I ended up blocking off half the radiator. Apparently the problem with the SZR is thermostat is too loose in the housing, it is fitted round wrong way and doesnt have a bypass pipe (hence the reason for the loose fit).
