Jawa scrambler and Timbo
« on: January 17, 2020, 10:35:22 PM »
Spotted this Jawa-engined scrambler at one of our local vintage bike shows. Looks like one of their speedway engines mated to an AMC(?) gearbox. I was trying to figure out the gear change / chain arrangement.
Also, Timbo has been back over in Northern Ireland for a few weeks and as you'll know, hasn't been on the forum for a while - he sends his best wishes to everyone on the site.

Regards

Tony

Aye Tony,

Thank you for the images, like the chain gear change. Regards to Timbo.

Good health, Bill

I've never seen a cylinder head that sloped backwards before - thanks and regards to Timbo.

Wow that beat the BMW G310 with it's backward leaning motor by about 50 years! Love the complicated solution for the gear change too.

Hello to Timbo and hope to see you around this year.

Hi Tony, nice to hear from you and that Tim's alive and well.
The scrambler.....I presume the reason for reclining the engine in the frame is to give clearance for the exhaust pipe, otherwise if it was upright or inclined, the pipe would foul the frame, it does look a bit odd though and the unusual gear change connection, probably not ideal on a scrambler as I would have thought it would be prone to damage and mud fouling.....nice little Moby AV76 next to it, Pat's got one, but not as pretty as that one.
Dave.

Yes Tommy, hopefully see you in April. Health to enjoy your new Royal Enfield as we say up here. A lovely bike.
I have attached a few more photos from the Ards show. One of them shows a stunning Harley Engined bobber in the back of an older model Citroen Berlingo Multispace - the owner thought I was taking a photo of the bike whereas I was more impressed with how he transported it! It was an ex-mobility car with a wheelchair ramp and the passenger seat removed.

Regards

Tony
