New toy
« on: October 14, 2019, 12:43:58 PM »
Well got my Enfield home after fetching it from Oxfordshire over the weekend.  Very pleased with it so far.  Engine is much smoother than I expected it to be but I think the 21000 miles on it, good maintenance and a Carberry Anti-vibration plate are all helping with that.  Was a little underpowered for the bigger roads, but chugs along nicely between 50 and 60.  Handling a little interesting on the nobblies but very comfy ride.  Think I may need to look at the steering head bearings though as something not quite right beyond the funny tyres.

That looks lovely!!! I was thinking of fitting tyres similar to them to mine?

I love them, great to just plod around on and enjoy the ride and scenery.

Enjoy !!!  ;D ;D

If you are mostly riding on tarmac I wouldn't bother with those tyres mate.  They don't grip too well on the road and feel a bit unstable.  They look the part, but I am actually thinking of putting some more tarmac biased tyres onto it.  These are them if you are fussed - http://accessories.hitch*******smotorcycles.com/accessory-shop/Ensign-Universal-Trials-Tyres/17352

Mine is a Watsonian special model - An Enfield EFI Trials - so came standard with those tyres, the alloy mudguards, sump guard, handlbars, and high level exhaust, the latter since replaced with a very noisy Hitchcocks stainless job.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I`ll stick to the Avon Speedmaster front and Avon something? on rear (it`s like a sidecar tyre  ;D)

I wonder what would be needed to convert a standard bike into a street scrambler  ??? ;D

It`s lovely, enjoy  8) 8)

Congrats on the new bike!
Interested in the anti-vibration plate - here's a link to YouTube, showing one being fitted, complete with before and after testing on a machine which measures vibrations...

Checked the steering head bearings and they are fine, so the slightly wobbly handling must just be down to the tyres.  The front has worn a bit unevenly which probably doesn't help.

I'm not sure anybody who rides an Ural outfit has any right to complain about the handling of any other bike Steve.  ;D ;D

Does that mean I'd have to buy one of those horrid single cylinder four strokes before being allowed back on?  :o
