The wait until October the 1st is killing me.. If the bike is ready and waiting to go I may have to get it taxed for september and collect it sooner !  spoke to hitchpeople about exhausts, the one i like may/may not fit, he`s not sure about the brackets, so at first i will stick with the standard one and might try one from india later, or should i just go for one i know will work/fit but not the style i want  and see if dealer is happy to fit it?  decisions.

Heck yeah. You only live once.

Regarding what you like in exhaust style. I had a thought, which would cost more but potentially give you the style you want and run well. Could you use the down pipe section from the new so called trials version and stick a free flowing silencer on the end. This way you'd (theoretically) get a good fitting down pipe, with the lambda sensor in the right place. ?. Might be worth putting it to hitchcocks and see if they agree.

Yes long stroke, low rpm  proper thumpers. Unique on the new bike market I imagine. I can't think of any other bike that you can buy new which will take you back in time to the degree this one does, offering the simple pleasures. Being so genuinely old fashioned comes with limitations, which you either embrace as part of the experience or not.

Got myself a lucky dip on the strength of your description!  ::)

I can think of one other Andrew, a Jawa. Long stroke engine designed in the late 40's, last updated in the 80's when they changed the barrel from iron to alloy. Four, yes four speed gearbox and a single carb, none of your fancy catalytic converters and EFI here thank you very much. Basically, a 1950's bike with a disc brake and electric start...

Ay up Pete. Hope you're still doing well. I guess your recovery is pretty much complete by now.

You'll notice I said bikes available to buy new 😁. Surely the jawa wouldn't get past euro 4. I have to admit to knowing nothing about it though. I stopped buying magazines probably 6 to 8 years ago as they were becoming repetitive and a waste of money. The downside is I have very little clue as to what is new on the market, except Enfield cos I follow their Facebook output.

Post a link to the jawa please, I'd  like to have a goosey.

Cheers Pete.

Cheers Pete.

Personally I much prefer the look of the classic 500 Enfield. The jawa doesn't look like what one might say is a long stroke engine. That said, I'm sure it is basic motorcycling, which was your point. Probably even more basic than the Enfield in one sense.

Hi Andrew, yes, A Jawa is about as basic as you can get without stoking a boiler!  ;D ;D

Just been giving Norman the once over (oo er) after a five week lay up. Noticed something you'd have to be careful of with an upswept  silencer. There is a welded on rear footrest bracket which juts out. I don't know whether the new so called trials version has these or not?

I am collecting the bike saturday lunchtime, i have decided to leave standard silencer on until it has its first service, i may just go for the hitchpeoples offering. Have you disconnected the wiring to stop headlight coming on when electric start is used ?  and the side stand cut out, that sounds like a nuisance

Yep, very excited, l have only ever had two brand new bikes, a 350 Jawa in 1973 and 250 CZ in 1981.  I will probably come home via Annan/Gretna/Brampton/chollerford then down A68.     ;D
