New "Thumper"
« on: June 06, 2019, 01:02:44 PM »
As the more astute of you are aware I have sold all my SRX bits due to me having also sold off the last of my SRX-4 s (no7). I was getting a bit pi$$ed off with having to adjust, repair, or otherwise modify bits to keep it going. I enquired about all sorts of single cylinder bikes around the 400cc range. I rode a Mash Scrambler, an SR400 , a KTM390, a BMW G310R, and sat on lots more. The SWM 440 wouldn't start 🤔 and I couldn't get hold of a Herald 400 at the time (dealers on holiday or just couldn't be ar$ed to reply to emails messages or voice mails!)
I finally settled on the BMW for several reason

*They took my SRX in part ex and gave me the price I was asking (2K).
* I was told to take the test bike out and not to come back for 3 hours
* Cup of coffee supplied and duly topped up regularly
* Salesman knocked £150 off when I asked for them to supply a fly screen that I showed an example of, but because it wasn't a genuine OEM part they can't fit.
* 2 year BMW warranty even though the bike is 15 months old which includes 2 year breakdown cover!
* I find it extremely comfortable to ride
* I liked the colour (Pearl white with Moto sports decals)

It is actually a thumper (313cc four stroke single) but is quite a revvy and eager little engine and has a big GF (grin factor).
So I hope I'm still allowed to stay in the TC  😉 and hopefully put it on the stand at Stafford if we have one.

Ian 😏

Will put up a pic once I have resized it

I test rode a G310R last year and was really impressed. Punched well above it's weight and felt like real quality. Enjoy.

Now that looks a nice bit of eye candy. Is the small engine up to it and on par with others in the 400 class?  What sort of money is it and what else did you look at?

Hi tigcraft, list of my views in my original post. Engine not as torquey as the SRX but very smooth but it is nearly 100cc less. It revs very easily and pulls well throughout the rev range. Red lines at 10000. Suspension on the soft side but that suits me fine. Michelin road pilot radials hug the road even in the wet. All in all one of my better buys 🙄
Matt, I bought it from BMW Motorad in Wolverhampton.
