Napier Railton
« on: January 16, 2019, 04:02:58 PM »
Posting from MadMax Facebook page:

"It doesn't get more extreme than a 24,000cc (yes, 24 litre) W12 Aero engine car - The Napier Railton is amazing and stunning with hand beaten alloy bodywork. This car was built in 1933 for John Cobb by T&T. It holds the all time lap record set in 1935 of 143.44mph, with a top speed of 168mph. It broke another 47 world records between 1933-1937. It delivers over 600hp hp (at sea level) at just 2500rpm and 1,200 lbft of torque at just 800rpm. It cruises at 5mpg, and uses basic unleaded fuel, due to its very low 6:1 compression ratio. I was very honoured to sit in it and be taught how to drive it."

Wonderful!!.... love all that stuff...
You see that banking .... at one point it goes over the river Wey, and on the way home from skool we used to sit on the concrete support beams underneath the banking and dangle our cane fishing rods into the river ..... in the winter, providing we had snow.... the a tin tea tray was like a missile to slide down the banking on ... oh what fun we had as kids back then

Yes great beasts. I have seen similar cars hillclimbing at the Chateau Impney. Google the beast of Turin etc.
