Weekend briefing
« on: April 20, 2007, 09:17:11 AM »
Much house work has been scheduled by SWMBO so biking will be limited this weekend.

On Sunday I have to collect a Land Rover gearbox from Jethro's place, apparently he can't lift it by himself, the big blouse.

The weekend starts here with me writing a letter to my bank to complain about bank charges, a trip to price a job, a fettle of the XBR outfit and then a night of childcare because SWMBO is working this evening.

Tomorrow I will mostly be wiring an upstairs lighting circuit.

Some TC members are off for a canoe down the Wye this weekend. Happy splashing lads :)

Cheers

Sort of a weekend pre-briefing then!
I'm off to Killin for the Imp Club Scottish meeting, so I'll be forced to drink beer, look at pretty old cars and drive some lovely roads at different times over the weekend :)
Will be harsh I'm sure :D

I'll be picking up me SZR from Quill on Saturday, if that is they've managed to remove the snapped exhaust stud and fit my spanking new stainless end can.

Then I have to take the heavily pregnant Mrs Mav out for her birthday, which would normally involve her driving and me drinking, but due to the proximity of the happy event I'm currently on a beer ban in case a hospital dash is needed....bugger!

looks like it's going to be a bit boring here :-( Working tomorrow, possibly changing Dolly's front wheel bearings if they turn up (she failed the MOT) with Sunday set aside for boys football in the morning and a leaflet drop in the afternoon. Wifey is working all day Sunday too which is a bit of a downer. Had hoped to go and meet up with the guys canoeing the Wye, but in the light of the MOT failure, I probably wont make it.
Heyho! (sigh)

I too was sorely tempted to go to Ross for the canoeing but SWMBO has detailed 'painting & decorating' as MUCH MORE important. Can't complain really as the two following weekends are 'boys toys' related - meeting@Wetton, and then fishing and Turkish Baths in Harrogate!

Its a tough old life isn't it?

The Boss is off to London with No2 for a meeting so I have No1 all to myself (yipee) so it will be off to Mumbles for French and then shouting at each other for the next 12 hours.

Might do something - see there is some bikes at Pembery - but not sure how much that will cost for the two of us and a bored 5 year old after 20 mins.

Ross on Wye sounds good...

Sat, wrote off on garden tidying, building a new fence and driving mrs f shopping cos she cant drive at the moment.
Sunday building garage extension to house nice big monster compressor behind, since I cant get anything car sized in the garage anymore with it inside, and wiring in a 3phase feed to it to run said compressor that the nice septic tank people ran in while they were destroying the entire garden for us. I may of course break off from toiling with a cement mixer to try our pool in the heat of the midday sun, that I spent yesterday evening getting the levels right for summer...
Might take the turbo out for a final spin before it gets ripped to bits...

friday spent mostly putting #1 srx back together after rebore/new piston etc...test ride seemed ok, so had some tea, before fitting her up with legal number plate and exhaust for MOT on saturday (8am sharp) when i looked at her after tiffin, bu55er me if there wasn't a puddle of oil on the garage floor!!! started her up, and, oh effin hell, oil burbling out from joint between crankcase and cylinder front left corner! figured i must have trapped something between the mating faces, in any event it was going to have to come apart...so, started at 7pm, was stripped to 'cylinder off' by 8, where muggins discovered that he'd put the base gasket round the wrong way (yes...it 'almost' fits), as luck would have it i had a spare one (along with the +40 thou piston is a head and base gasket, in addition to the full gasket set i already had), so, rebuild in progress....well, to a point, the point where i tore the new gasket whilst struggling to get piston and rings into bore! round about now i should have given up for the day.....but with the MOT booked i figured i'd stick at it. Plan B....remembering #1son was doing exactly the same job on SRX#4 I rang him to blag the extra gasket....the sod had gone out!  Plan C....check original (back to front, upside down) gasket...well, 2 screw holes were a bit misshapen, but it was complete...VERY carefully introduced piston into bore and by 10.30 all was finished and ready to roll.....just find leathers etc for the morning ....oh and fit new side light bulb in headlight....check all lights work ok (again) what?????? no bleedin break light!!!  found problem at 11.30!!! damaged connector under tail piece! up at 6, leave at 7 , nice 60 mile ride for mot (although at 40 to 50 mph and not going above 4000rpm can be a bit boring), and passed with flying colours
picked up 4 new tappets and new chain while i was having the mot done. (bit of a sad day really, denver motorcycles are closing at the end of next week....where the hell i'm going to get all my srx info / work now???)
rest of weekend will be used to build SHWBO's gazebo ..... from steel......borrowed a portable forge......watch this space....3rd degree burns a distinct possibility!!

Actaually managed to get a few miles in on the SRX. Went to see my son play rugby for Derby against Leek at Leek. Took in a bit of the ride-out for next Saturday, but in reverse, and thoroughly enjoyed the excuse for a ride. Even managed to finish the painting and decorating so in SWMBO's good books for a few weeks............

Roll on next weekend. Have the Friday off so should be there for lunchtime!
