My Suzuki V-Strom had a similar arrangement (although it wasn't a blinking light, the code came up on the speedo) and I did fit a switch to that. I never actually needed it though.....

Cost aside,  If you have a switch and it sticks in the active position, the ECU needs to kick itself out of diagnostic mode. It's not beyond the wit of man, some truck ECU' s had a switch.

The MIL light on the dash means if you ride with it on for a week and it's the timing that's out and you hole the piston you have no excuse.

Hi Andy.

My train of thought 're putting the mil out of sight is that you'd almost certainly know your bike isn't running right and then consult the mil to help diagnosis. In other words I'm suggesting relegating it to a diagnostic aid only.

Cheers.

Edit: don't try this at home kids, I'm only thinking out loud 😂

I'm with you Propellor, if you can't tell your bike is running rough without a light telling you then you shouldn't be on a bike. Sorry but I am not a fan of things that take away human thinking.

I once took my wife's car for a new alternator and was asked if I had had it 'diagnosed', for which read had I already given the garage £80 to tell me what I knew. I said yes it isn't charging, it's the alternator.

Bah humbug.

By the time it's running rough it may have destroyed the catastrophic perverter or percolator filter or something. In places/vehicles where they check such things, early warning is better than a huge MOT bill. Bikes lack sufficient volumes to support dedicated systems so we get modified car technology.

Now I really hope my bike has a catastrophic converter! Other than me that is.

Good to have you with us today Ian. Hope you enjoyed the run. I certainly did. Me ears are humming a bit and me eyes are even more like peeess holes in the snow after a day with the open face lid. Reet do.
