Just needs a quick tidy up!
« on: September 21, 2017, 05:37:59 PM »
My favourite bike is my Honda NX650 Dominator. But in second place, it would have to be the Armstrong MT500, to which i am a recent convert. i have quite a tidy one that has been converted to electric start, and when i bought it, it came with an almost complete rolling chassis. So yesterday i picked up another almost complete one, (there are a lot of other bits as well as the large lump in the pic).
Yea, its rough, but is worth the £250 i paid as its got an engine that turns over, and a pair of rear pannier racks, that you cant get for love nor money. The story with the bike is that was dropped from a helicopter in the Falklands, which i find hard to believe, as it has a civilian C plate registration, and is on the DVLA system.
So i should be able to build a decent bike out of the two scrappers. Though i will need a carb, if anyone has one  ;)

Judging by the look of them front forks Tim it does look like it was dropped from a helicopter and then landed on its front wheel 😁😉.... best o luck with the transformation/rebuild

Aye, I think the rebuild will be on the long finger, but I couldn't walk past it for that money, even for parts. These really are great bikes, and still very affordable. I just sold a real sorted one for a grand, so affordable  ;)

Yes me and big bro know a guy who has about 13 or 14 of them, he rents them out to people who then go off green laning around the Yorkshire dales area. Been building up his collection for a good few year's now. He has one for himself too, that one has a little wooden box strapped to the rear carrier where his jack russel dogs sits when he goes out. 🐶🐶 top stuff.

Got the bits I wanted off the two project bikes, and have sold the lot to a mate who will build one good bike out of what's left, so everyone's happy  :)

I'm not very long in the leg myself, but it doesn't put me off riding these things. When you stop, you just have to drop her over till ur foot hits tarmac  ;)

Armstrong project is now in the hands of my good friend David. Potentially the makings of a great bike. Some scrap, but enough good stuff there, and just a carb to chase up. We certainly filled the back of his pickup!
That's now five MTs that have come through my hands in the last couple of years, yet everyone tells me they are a rare bike  :-\
