Shortening stainless steel braided brake lines
« on: August 23, 2017, 10:31:07 AM »
My newly acquired Guzzi V50 has quite pretty braided stainless steel brake lines. However, for some unfathomable reason, they've been made far too long. I can lose some of the extra length by creative routing, but was wondering whether it's possible to have them shortened?

At which point I will of course realise I've made them too short.....

It depends if the banjos unscrew where the stainless pipe enters them. If they are crimped on then you cant do anything about it, but if they screw together, then just unscrew the outer, pull the stainless braded line off the inner, remove the ferrule (you may need to replace this) cut the pipe to the correct length and rebuild it

Given that I'm shortening them, could I not just cut the pipe and use new compressible fittings?

I haven't looked to see whether they're removable, and don't know what make they are. Are the pipes a standard diameter?

Goodridge do a mind-boggling assortment of fittings for hoses it may be worth giving them a call.

Thanks all, it looks as though I can get the bits I need from Goodridge.
