foreign lands
« on: July 07, 2017, 06:00:05 PM »
just got back today from trips to holland (on bike) and france (in car) one week in holland at the classic racing at rockanje which was very good, while there i managed to buy a moto guzzi v35 that i have to go back for next week, it was a bargain  ! the stay in france was a long time, caretaking a friends house and cutting grass etc, very hot and good fun, went to an autojumble and bought a tatty belstaff jacket that doesn`t fit, might have to lose weight.. , got home to find that on the way back from the ferry in hull  i had managed to do 71mph in a 60 limit..... bummer, didnt think the gn went that fast, i will have to phone the police on monday and explain i was out of the country so couldn`t send the required info back sooner,  what can i expect as a fine / points ?

possibly a speed awareness course, so no points, but the courses are over 100 quid.

Yes.. had to do two of those in the past. To be honest I do feel that they are worth doing. 1..because you won't get the points on your license 2... they are quite informative, I came away on both occasions with a better understanding of the laws that cover our roads. So if you're lucky enough to get offered one spooky I'd go for it. Like John says it'll probably cost you about £100 but you'd probably be getting on for that figure as a fine anyway... either way, best of luck.
Cheers...Michael

Spoke to the gendarmes this morning, awareness course will be offered, at a cost of £85, cheaper than the fine, plus i will get a day out in yorkshire, is that a plus ?   does the fee include lunch do you think or is that asking a bit much...

Yep. Just been working away and on the trip to work which is nearly an hours drive I pass 20 fixed cameras, that is 40 per day and the job has taken 82 days, that's 3280 opportunities to get caught. The one that got me was a mobile van, concealed in a pull in!
I've had a clean license for many years now and don't want the points!.
I'll be doing one of the 'awareness' courses in Kirklees.

Cheers Steve

I have my SA course on 4/8/17, #2, last one was 5 years ago. I agree, they are worth doing. I'm hoping to spot the gorilla this time  :D .

the 'window' of acceptance into the SA scheme is :-  10% + 2 mph to 10% + 9 mph of the speed limit in forse at the time of the 'offence'.

So, it would appear that if you keep within 10% + 2 (i.e. 35mph in a 30 limit) you 'should' be safe from Mr Plod.

pleased to see that in 5 years the SA course has only increased from £80 to £85, very reasonable.

also, i noted on the website i had log in to to choose a course venue/date/time, that it looked as though you could select a venue outside your immediate area.

oh, and don't get stroppy and argue with the course presenters, one old geezer on my last SA course did just that, questioned everything, said he shouldn't be here etc etc, they got so pi55ed off with him, he was sent home and got the points added to his licence AND had to pay the fine ...  silly old duffer

good luck all you SA course attendees ..  remember ... be contrite, say yes to everything, keep nodding your head, and SPOT THE GORILLA.  :D

This is what cruise control is for.  The only way to defeat the ******ds is to stop getting caught so they are no longer profitable. It gets me how many flashes I see on motorway stretches with obvious digital fixed cameras when the car going 20 over the limit is high spec so will have cruise & limit and satnag with the locations.
