Young folks of today.....

I had a contact about my Sunbeam and the chap arrived today to view it - a 19 year old electrical engineering student. Not the stereotypical post-vintage bike owner!

Anyway, we had a long chat about the bike, he looked it over carefully and he's decided to buy it - and at a reasonable (for both of us) price. I'm sure he will look after it.

I will introduce him here as he may need some gentle hand-holding and encouragement and you're such a nice bunch.

Brilliant Ian 
The fella that bought my Enfield today, was probably mid twenties. He already had a RE EFi Bullet, but wanted something more akin to an old Brit plodder.  He'd had sports bike before, but had had enough of exploring that particular route to anialation!

Glad to hear you've sold it Ian.It's these youngsters who will carry on with our hobby when we are too old so they need encouragement and good luck to them.When i was 18 i had a new Kawasaki 750 twin on hp and a '59 RE Crusader as back up!

I've a mate, yes just the one, who has been riding Panthers since he was 18, and I reckon he's probably 50 odd now. The POC have a scheme now, were if you are financially on a strong footing, but getting a bit frail for your beloved big pussycat, you pass it on to a young enthusiast, who wouldn't otherwise be able to procure one. I don't know all the details, but what a great alltruistic idea. And, do I qualify at aged 50

Nice to hear, we have two young men new at Drags, but both seem more interested in cars than bikes. I still don't seem to come accross many younger people taking up the torch, when I do it's a pleasure though, like a young man I was talking to just before we moved here. Lives somewhere close too but not seen him since.

im operating a similar scheme myself. ive more bikes than i can ride, but i dont want to sell em, so, ive had my old (1967) c15 out on loan for the last 9 months or so, to a young guy from our local greenpeace group that i know. he is into older bikes (his daily ride is a mint cb550 that he restored himself) but he couldnt afford to buy an old brit, so i loaned him the c15 with the understanding that he couldnt sell it, it was just a loan, but he could ride it and as long as he looked after it then thats all i needed to know. he just lost his storage, so the beesa has come back home whilst he sorts something else out. when ha has, it will go back into use but for now it goes into the back of my big shed and is being sheeted up till its needed next.

Interestingly I had another long phone call this morning from a very interested possible buyer (more "mature" this time).

Why people leave it till the ebay listing (which lasted for 28 days) has finished I don't know.

There's a piece in classic mechanics, David Silver loaned a Suffolk school a CB350K for the kids to restore, that sounds positive. You see things do go on in Suffolk.
