Breakdown Cover

Have used the AA even though I wasn't a member (pretended I was my mate ) coming back from tt got a puncture on the M6 they brought me home as it was late and no tyre place open . Not sure I'd get away with that now ! But service was good. Had RAC cover which came with my Fazer didn't use it but when it ran out they wanted a fortune to renew . Have Carole Nash insurance now which comes with breakdown cover not had to use it so don't know what it's like. Not much use I know but until your up the creek with no paddle your not going to know.

been with rac for 30 years !  they cover all four of us whether in own car or someone elses, used them a few times but its mainly peace of mind, however they have got daft expensive so wont be renewing this year, my car insurers do cover for us all including european cover for about £100 a year less, bikes are covered with peter james insurance, also never had to use it so no idea if any good, but its included free,

I am the same as spooky,Been with RAC for donkeys years,Until renewal last August when they increased my premium by about 90%....phoned them and told them to take a hike,I have free RAC cover for my bike through Bennetts (some promo deal they had on at the time)

I don't think I know anyone with seperate breakdown cover myself, I have insurance with CN as well and built in breakdown cover, I've never had to use it as the one time I did have a breakdown it seemed more sensible to call my mate Stevie with his trailer who's been aching to do something for me for ages and knows for sure how to deal with bikes as we worked in the trade together for years.

I have it free with my Peter James policy. But also have a Nationwide Flexplus bank account that gives full UK / EU Britannia Rescue for any vehicle. Although this costs £10 / month, it pays 5% on up to £2,500 in the account which is around £6 / month so effectively the breakdown cover (plus worldwide travel insurance etc etc) for around £50 / year........

I hae used the Britannia service once for the Honda 400 and it was fine - dedicated bike recovery van, helpful driver. It was a little slow in arriving however.

Thanks for all the comments. Checked my Peter James Insurance, and I have breakdown cover  So by by AA, and your now extortionate fees.

Have had CN insurance for 25+ years, always been good on rare occasions I used it.

Looking to chamge tho, as will no longer be with CN after June, they made such a mess of last year's "renewal" leaving me UNINSURED for 4-5 days. Eventually got an apology checque from them, bank bounced it as they got my hame wrong, so even that required more emails and a wait on another chq. Shame, end of an era.

That's what my boss said a few times, once just after I did have a breakdown. Last year I had two, one close enough to push home and the other outside out daughters house just accross from where I used to work, but I'd not take it there to be fixed anyway and I have a friend with a trailer. Both were easy fixes in the end, but yes 36 year old Hondas do break down esspecially when a p.o has made a slightly dodgy repair.
Odd in some ways though, for years no problems like that, then I start work at a place that does parts for old Brits and I get two breakdowns in a year, maybe there's something catching?

It took me ages to track down but eventually I discovered that one of the plug caps was intermittently going open circuit. I would have thought it would still run on 3, but each coil feeds 2 plugs so that effectively disabled the partner cylinder as well. I've now managed a 40 mile run with no hiccups so hopefully that's that......

I remember you going through that, one of my breakdowns was down to the plug cap too, I did think about contacting Honda and complaining about how rubbish their caps were, failing after pnly 35 years and nearly 60,000 miles, but I couldn't be bothered. I only had to push the bike a mile or so, before out son got to me and pushed it the last half, which was good as I was getting very shaky by then.

The main reason it took me so long to work out was that I'd dismissed the possibility of a plug / cap as I'd reasoned (incorrectly) that it would still have run even if badly on 3.
