Been there and done that I'm afraid. Back in about 1992, Tippetts in Surbiton had my CB100N for a fortnight waiting for steering head bearings before they'd MOT it. These days I'd have got the bits myself in 24 hours (not something you can with a head under warrenty of course), but back then I was daft enough to wait. Went and bought an MZ in the end.

The best parts availability IMHO is BMW and Enfield. Both seem to keep stock which is rare these days. Triumph are rubbish BTW.

the problem is ,ost people nowadays ride bikes only for pure pleasure and not as a main form of transport
so they dont realy bother if they miss out a week, and the manufacturers are aware of this
i got told honda has stopped theire 24hour service because it didn`t work most times , now they have a 48 hour service
see above doesn`t work either , ok i can understand if they dont stock parts for a 10 year old bike or older ready available. but mine is only one year old and no parts avaiable in this country
so in reality you are not better of if you buya new bike  from the mature brands , you are in fact better if you buy a used old hack where you get parts everywhere at every breaker or if you buy a chinese bike ,
they already sell from offical dealerships in this country with warehouses full of stock have seen in a magazine some add`s
from chinese importers selling 200cc bikes for around  a grand otr at theire dealers , they have now proper dealerships in this country , ok some of theire dealers still sell via ebay , but that`s the easiest and cheapest way of advertising a bike

bad new`s  yesterday the garage told me they have nearly all parts but there are some on back order, the rocker arms  because honda has changed the parts ! so they know there is a problem but now i have to wait to wednesday to get the parts , thats more then  one week after ordering them , i was told i will be lucky if i have it by end of next week on the road again

so its now day number 7 of hondas 48hour service(or does it mean 48 day service and i did get lost in translation)  not including the bank holliday weekend since my bike is in for a headchange under warranty  , they have now all parts together and hopefully they get it together by tomorrow if i`m lucky and the garage find the time to get it back together

i actually did finance the bike because i was upset with my old hacks always breaking down (could always get them running again within a day) so i thought no this time you buy a brandnew honda whatever the costs because i needed something to rely on and honda had the best reputation for beeing reliable, with a good service and parts availebility , and bulletproof engines

Wow thats really bad with those lead times. It only took 6 months give or take a week to get warranty parts for my Skorp!.
Our Aussie distributor thought he only needed to SELL the bikes.

so have it back after now all together (incl. easter bank holliday weekend ) 2weeks  for a headchange , which the garage told me is a 2-3 day job to do (would if all parts would be available) now the engine runs as smooth as never before not even when it was brandnew with zero miles on the clock , it feels like it has more power at lower revs too
so bike back on the road ,cost me nothing under warranty ,apart from two weeks off work (no transport )
so for the future i will look to get a second form of transport just in case it breaks down again (not what i was expecting when i bought a new honda )

Get an old CG or C90 as backup.  A good chain and a cover and she will be OK outside and if it is stolen it is going to be worth less than the insurance excess - so - no worries.
