Looking at bidding on a szr660 on eBay wondered if anyone has owned one ? Believe it is tzr 250 frame etc with the 660 engine , thought it may help scratch my itch for knee scraping without the hp.
I know I'm to old, must be a mid (late) life crisis ! You can take the boy out of the race but you can't take the racer out of the boy.  ;D

Never "Too old!"  :)

I've never owned one, but had a Skorpion using the 660 motor. Need to be revved, not thumped; the Skorp was a bit "snatchy" in and about town or at low revs.

I suspect that maintanence behind the plastics and within that alloy frame can be a bit of a nightmare! If the maintanence and cleaning hasn't been done then there maybe some unseen 'issues', once you start to run it.

But, if it's anything like an SRX or a Honda Bros, the handling and ability to plant your feet on the floor will be great. I wish you well.

My regards, Bill

I have an old 'track iron' SRX6 engine in a tzr chassis, and Bill is quite right, getting to the plug and various bits (which weren't that easy on the std srx chassis) can be a bit of a issue... makes a great & light machine and yes... with a good set of boots on you'll be scraping your knee in no time (and actually staying on and in control sometimes  ;D )
I have lost count of the number of cracks we have had to weld up on the chassis... but hey ho ... its getting old, look round the headstock area, and if there are hangers from the beam to the front of the engine, then look round those areas too ... in fact... look everywhere !
also, as a bit of a hybrid, check the chain line .. ours was crap when we bought it, had to modify the rear sprocket location to get some sort of lineup.

Thanks fella's ,
Got to win it first though , not sure quite what it's worth but going to give it a go.
Doesn't stop me thinking about what to do with it though? Get going first then sort suspension etc single seat unit and 916 or 675 fairing or do I fit fly screen and belly pan? Aka monjuic .
Full of good ideas me , getting it done is another matter, all dreams until it's in the shed ha ha.
Cheers Mark

Aye Mark,

I have never met this man but he is an acquaitance of a friend and appears to be a general 'good egg', if he'll not be offended by the term.

On a recent blog posting of his, he was talking about selling his SZR, perhaps some polite correspondence and negotiation might achieve what you are looking for? Can but ask.

Also Mark, if you do a search on the for sale section, a mate of mine, Sean, was selling a really tuned and tricked up one of these a while back, and I placed an ad for him on here. Don't know if he still has it, but the ad is worth reading for ideas on what you can do with one  ;)

I had one some years ago and thought it was brilliant, handling superb. Little bit on the small side. Now I have just rebuilt a Skorpion Sport, very similar. Prob going on road and do a few more track days before I get too old (60+ at present)
I have fitted lighter wheels and better forks. May keep it and play around modifying it which is half the fun. All the best if you get the SZR.

Friend of mine spent ages researching these, they seem a great idea and a lovely bike. HOWEVER, they are often a first bigger bike for guys chasing their mates on 600 fours thus can get thrashed badly.

Then again, they are slim, light and not expensive. Think probably huge fun if you get a decent one!

Are you near enough to view it?

:'( did'nt win the szr , got sniped in the last 10 minutes and was not prepared to pay £1000 for a non runner . Son has a fzr400 that overheats and wants to make it into a track day bike been avoiding it for nearly a year but guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and prep it. The reason for avoiding this is I know what happens when you throw a bike down the road at 100mph (and have the pins to prove it) and bought jack a track day course to try and put him off (mistake) he loved it and I was a nervous wreck , am I being selfish ?

That's a tricky one to answer oldandwornout,
both myself and big bro were lucky that our parents didn't ever kick up Any kindda fuss about us wanting ride bikes. However we av a mate who's dad refused to let him get a bike "because they're to dangerous" he finally succumbed and past his direct access test at the age of 32, wouldn't listen to the voice of experience when we suggested to him to get something like a 600 bandit for a year to cut his teeth on, went out and bought a triumph 595 Daytona. He duly crashed it in a very big way, very, very lucky not to be badly hurt. Fortunately it made him "see the light" and he went out and bought something a little smaller and a little less powerful.....yes...a 600 bandit. All this is approximately 12 years ago and he still riding to this day and enjoying every minute of it. So far with no more get off,s...so i think that banning him just made him more determined to get on one, and kindda sticking two fingers up at is dad when he did. ...cheers, Michael

To be fair it's my fault that jack has a love of racing motorcycles in all disciplines , he's never been into having a road bike (yet) but has ridden quads/motor cross /trials bikes etc from an early age. Having raced myself (not very well) always thought I'd like to see jack race the reality is it frightened the s**t out of me watching him, I guess I'm being the over protective parent .
Cheers Mark
Ps your Harris /ikuzawa is very tempting but I'd hate to drop it , how hypocritical is that ha ha.

I would love any of my kids or step kids to get into bikes, but they don't really show any interest at all I'm afraid. If they had, I'd have tried to insist they drove a car for a couple of years before starting on bikes, just so they got some road sense up front. As it is, they've all passed their car test anyway...
