Any news on this Ian, or are you having to get the insurers to cough up?

Hi Pete

Sadly the police rang me to tell me they had no further leads so game over. The insurance company paid up at insured value minus excess so I can't whinge about that.

I still have the R1100R but there is a huge thumper shaped hole in my life so I am looking at what I can replace the F650 with and how I can pay for it.

Thanks for asking man that was kind.

Ian

Aye Ian,

Sorry to read the outcome, but at least some filthy lucre changed hands, even though it doesn't return the bike or cover all your costs. Hope you find a suitable replacement.

My regards, Bill

That's bad news but at least the insurance paid out without a fight.

Not wishing to exploit another's bad fortune but might you be interested in my SLR650?

That's a sh!t Ian.

I do know where there's a MZ 500R Saxon (Rotax) going if that's of any interest. Bit down on power from the 650 BMW, but they still go well enough. Otherwise, I've always thought the CCM's are quite an attractive proposition. Nice and light , Rotax or Suzuki engine, high quality components, but apparently slightly iffy build quality and electrics. They go for very reasonable money too. Dammit, I've almost convinced myself.....

Thank you one and all, once again I am struck by the amazing camraderie of the Thumper Club. Ian I wish I was in a position to let you exploit me (oooer missus) but sadly the coffers are depleted. Why are you selling the SLR?

Just fancy a change....

I used to keep my bikes for ever (eg 850 Commando I owned for 20-odd years) but as I get older I start looking at all sorts I haven't tried and thinking "why not?" - currently pondering over grey import Honda 400 4s.

Mind you, I had a run on the SLR the other day and was wondering why I wasn't keeping it.....

I completely understand your reasoning. After 40 odd years on bikes I find myself thinking 'so many bikes, so little time left'. I used to be a keeper but now I want to experience as many bikes as possible and at the end of the day as long as it has two wheels it's worth a try.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do next.
