I'll no be seething over the wee beastie.  :o

I am pleased Steve has his "baby" and I hope he enjoys it. But, I'd just get it grubby and the road salt up here would start to attack it!  :(  I'll stick with my "oily rag" jobs and repair and refurbish as necessary.  ;)

Enjoy your lusts, and bikes, but please keep riding them!  ;D

My regards, Bill

Just thinking ahead?? (now now  :o) On the left hand side of the GB`s motor is the foo foo valve, air pump, anti smog device, whatever? reading about them lots of people remove them because they say the engine goes better without them? Does anyone know the exact way these things work (I know it introduces fresh air into the cylinder and turns any CO into CO2) Would you remove or leave alone?? Cheers.

I'd take it off - it cuts down on power & pick up. You can buy the blanking plates.

This shows how to do it on the XR650 which I imagine is much the same.

http://www.4strokes.com/technical/honda/xr650l/smog-removal1/

These are the blanking plates but you could probably make your own.

http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Honda-GB500-Exhaust-Emissions-Plate-AIS-Smog-PAIR-Block-Off-Kit-/330861063100?hash=item4d08db2bbc:m:mxECI-fR_GRaMSC7OG4qeAQ

Search for www.xbr.de in google and when it finds it click the translate option. On the list on the left click techntest then go down that list to the 14th listing " secondary air system to eliminate the GB" and it shows you how.

The one on the Bonneville was just a ball/flap and spring type non return valve that let it suck fresh air into the exhaust to water down what was going up the chimney. It was a good idea to remove them as they prevent access to the plugs. Apart from that I could see no reason not to leave them alone. They didn't make the exhaust leak or change the downstream pressure or weigh more than your breakfast or change the inlet mixture or use more power than charging your phone, so access aside just another aftermarket bit to talk about on the Web. The fresh air may have even cooled the header pipe and slowed the blueing so hated by the bike polishers.
