Tents.
« on: January 30, 2016, 02:27:12 PM »
Anyone with experience, or opinions, of tents with the Flashframe type of pitching system? I'm thinking of the Kyham Igloo, Slumit Cub or Coleman Instant Dome.

Is that the blue kyham with the yellow poles that have hinged joints, and you just "pop up"? I think they are OK, but I've never owned one. They became very popular at bike rallies a few years ago due to ease of erection. Ooh er Mrs. But I don't reckon they are that robust.
Myself, Tony Ross, and Geordie all now have the same tent, which is a Vango Halo 300. I just bought mine recently for about £125, though normal retail is about £175. They seem very good for all weather conditions, with easily enough room for a biker and all his/her gear  :)

Why not just get a TIPI and have done with it. Easier to pitch and bigger inside.......................................and you can stand up inside.
Have a look at  www.backpackinglight.

I've just given my Khyam biker tent away, sick of getting wet! Just bought a Vango Force  10 as everyone that has one of those seems to get up in the morning with a smile on their face and dry! 😉

So Tim, Tony and Geordie all have the same tent. Given the drinking habits of all three, I take it your names are printed on the outside, in large letters.

I do. Mine has done two Elefant rallies, a few Dragons including the one on the *****y Angelsy track that flattened a few tents, bits here are there inbetweeen and is still working fine. It's has a patch or two in the bottom sheet and new guys but that's just servicing. The folding poles are fine. This is the basic three hoop igloo, the ones trying for a porch etc. Do loose function as they include poles you need to thread, extra joints and so forth.

Try this site     http://www.backpackinglight.co.uk/shelters-3/WG101.html

Still the same price that I paid. Packs up as small as my old tent, good price and quality...........and YES it is Chinese!

The nest can be unhooked during the day and all of your gear can be stored on the waterproof base. It has enough space for 3 to sit comfortably inside. I also use my tarp over the front door to keep the elements off.

Thank you Steve, no wonder I couldn't find it. I was using *.com rather than *.co.uk! :-[

You know it makes sense. Big enough for you and Ali and the dogs!

Even Rons head would fit in! ;)

PS Breckie at the Riverside Pantry (Llanfairfechan) in a couple of weeks time?

Cheers Steve
