I have just had a search through a few of the old threads and there appear to be very few that include pics in the thread itself. What is the problem?

I really would like to post pics in a thread that I want to post.

Anybody?

(Except Mark of course)

Cheers Steve

Aye Steve,

You need to reduce the size of the picture so that the file and its size conform to these limits:

"Allowed file types: jpg, gif, mpg, png
Restrictions: 4 per post, maximum total size 500KB, maximum individual size 250KB"

You can view these instructions by clicking on the "Attachments and other options" selection below the message box that we write into.

Use either Photoshop or Photoscape to "Resize" the longest edge of your image so that when you re-save it under a different title from the original the file size is less than 250KB. I find that reducing the length of the longest image side to ~550 pixels does the trick. My last posts in 'Humour' on the site contain images reduced in Photoscape to achieve these results. Photoscape is a 'Freeware' software and works really well for all sorts of image manipulation, just Google 'Photoscape' and download from a reputable site. Photoshop may come 'bundled' with other software for your camera etc and is good but "costs" if you have to buy a license.

I hope this is clearer than ditch water, if not I'll try again in a 'Private' message.

My regards, Bill

I tried attaching a photo from the I pad for the first time last night and the procedure was really straightforward, except it scuppered me when it said the file size was too large!

Another forum I use has a good system in place when adding photos to a post, it uses something called tinypics (http://tinypic.com/) that changes the size of it when posting, don't know whether who can/would install it is interested.

Sounds a good idea. Although another site I go on has pretty much an identical procedure as on here, with regards to i pad anyway, but their site takes the larger file sizes ok.

Getting photos onto forums via tablets seems to generally cause issues.

I hardly ever use the pc these days though.

My photos are loaded from the camera onto Picasa on my laptop and then uploaded to Google + photos. All I'm doing is finding the image in Google + , right clicking and select 'copy image location' then paste the address into the insert image tag in the post reply. Like this. Seems to work for me.

I don't think you can upload a picture direct from your desktop, it has to be 'online'.

Hi steve.

How about I pad. Or kindle fire?

The system let's you take photos directly from your I pad photo files, it just has a file size limit which any device these days will easily outstrip in terms of pixels and therefore file size.

Pics for Jethro

Borrowed a Landy to go on safari when I lived in Kenya on the proviso that i got it going.

The owner had lent the front leaf springs to someone else, they had been returned but needed putting back on. :o
Not too much of a problem! But bearing in mind this was Kenya and I had limited tools.

The next problem was that the gearbox was out and a new clutch plate needed to be fitted. The plate was supplied and I just had to put it all back together. Now if any of you know the gearbox and transfer box on a Landy is very heavy and I had to do this all by myself! (I was younger and stronger then)
I assembled all of the parts and tried the gears before putting all of the tinware and seats back in. The gearbox can be pulled out from inside the vehicle when the seats and floor plates have been removed. Unfortunately it would not disengage the gearbox so it all had to come out again. The problem was that the outer diameter of the plate itself was too big! >:(  So I had to file about and eigth of an inch off the outside of the plate before reassembling the gearbox to the engine. This time all was good and I put the tinware and seats back in.

The went on safari. 8)

You will notice that the 'Beast' was a bit of a hybrid. 2.5 4cyl petrol engine with single choke carb. Sun roof that could be removed. Small back door, access to a bench seat in the back. Rear frame, canvas covered with internal roll cage to support the roof frame. Obligatory big tyres, freewheel hubs, nudge bars and big spotties on the front. Superb engine with loads of torque and not bad on fuel.
Safari went well, up to the North of Nairobi except that on the way back the engine started to knock. I nursed her back as far as I could before the engine locked solid. Managed to get towed back to Nairobi and dropped the sump. One of the nuts on a big end had come off and the conrod was jammed between the crank and the block, .....and bent. :-\
Dropped the engine out and dissassembled. Put a new conrod in and piston and all back together.................then gave it back to the owner, he was none the wiser. ::)

This was in about 1993........and Yes the girl was my girlfriend at the time. ::)

Would I have one of these ............too right I would ;D
