To drill or not to drill ?
« on: March 23, 2015, 01:28:18 PM »
my latest GN250 has a standard exhaust system, which is very quiet, my old GN had a reverse cone mega and was loud but not objectionally so,  question is : should i drill a few small holes in the end of the silencer ?  and if i did , is it likely that it would affect the running dramatically, anyone done this..

Personally I'd say no because A) you could bugger up the performance (?! :o) by messing up the back pressure in the system and B) decent exhaust systems in good nick for GN250's are slightly rarer than golden hen's teeth! ( mine was held together with jubilee clips and exhaust bandage before I found one and that was pretty shot too!)
Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!

I drilled !  started off with 4 10mm holes, no difference in `A`  performance or `B` sound,  drilled 8 holes, slight difference in `B`, drilled more holes (12 total)  slightly louder again, made all holes about 12mm, more slight increase in volume no difference in performance, nothing left to drill now, so next step is to mutilate another standard system (which is knackered) and fit a tiger cub silencer and see how it goes, i did give it a fair try over 400 miles including a trip to holland and back
