Ok it's dog rough BUT it's an SJ so you get the nice spoked wheels also has the seat hump cover and only 27K on the engine!

£ 315 at the moment with a day and a bit to go!  Worth a look.

This is a typical example of why I like my standard comstar type wheels as against spoked. Spoked wheels are a p.i.t.b. to keep clean and presentable, give me flat lumps of metal anytime to keep clean.

Have to agree with you there. Spokes do look nicer than Comstars, but spokes, especially old spokes need a lot of maintenance - my old GN 250 ( hardly a powerhouse) would break rear wheel spoke on a monthly basis towards the end- probably just fatigue from their age, but I must have replaced most of the wheel in the end. If you buy any old spoked wheel bike now I think you need to budget for a respoke even if it's in good condition.

The old Comstars may not look so pretty, but they are still shiny and sound 20+ years on.

Morning all, when I started building my XBR cafe racer I deliberated for quite some time as to wether I should convert to spoked wheels, mainly from the aesthetic point of view. In the end I decided to stick with the original comstars and personally I think they add a certain "retro" look to the finished bike, and I don,t regret the decision to keep the comstars one bit. Quite a few people have even commented on how nice it looks with them on.  Having said all that my latest XBR project is defo having spoked wheels. Best of both worlds eh.  Regards Michael

I agree with you that spoke wheels look more in keeping with motorbikes but they do require maintenance ie tightening individual spokes as they DO loosen so every now and again require truing up. The way forward with spoke wheels to stop them going rusty is to install stainless steel spokes they are stronger as well. Comstars do not require any maintenance and stay true unless you hit a kerb. The other big advantage is they run with tubless tyres so having an immediate flat tyre is a thing of the past. Safety first.

£645! .... not so cheap in the end!

I wonder if it'll appear in bits on an auction site near you in the near future! ( those wheels must be worth a bit even if they may be a bit tired!).

Hey Steve, it just depends on what you want. At that price you could do a nice refurb job as the bike is mainly there and you could easily have a bike worth £1500.
I got a small CB250RS not so long back for just over £200, it had been standiing for about 15 yrs. Got all of the blue plastics and tank off ebay, plus a good Motad 2 into one exhaust, new chain and sprockets, oil change and its just passed its MOT no advisories. I recon I 've spent about another £200 on it and I have a fantastic little bit of history for next to nothing. Just gotta ride it now!
I will do a complete strip down this winter and really bring it into tip top condition, respray etc, it's worth it.
