XBR sidebars at rear
« on: March 05, 2015, 11:03:46 PM »
My XBR has short side bars under the rear portion of the seat, like on this bike:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-Black-HONDA-XBR-500-A-thumping-good-bike-for-single-life-MOT-04-02-2016/161607688070?_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140328180637%26meid%3D5296fb2e607649bebadb3f2bd176da53%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D291270663096

But, I've noticed that not all XBRs have them.  Were they an optional accessory?

What are they for?  They seem too low for grab rails for the pillion passenger.  Could they be for attaching luggage? The handbook shows them on the picture, but does not identify their use.

Hi, I think you are referring to the grab rails, which came on all XBRs, unless somebody removed them.

Yep, standard fittings. I think they're supposed to be pillion grab rails - they work well as bungie anchors but I use them (well the left hand side one) for hoisting it up onto the main stand!  A lot of folks took them off along with the rear grab rail to make the back end look more 'sporty'.
Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!

I've never sat on the pillion seat; must try it some time.  It struck me that they were too low for grab rails, but maybe not.

Don't have them on mine but it did have a rack when I got it so perhaps they was taken off to fit the rack. As others have said - if anyone has a pair they no longer want or would like to swop them for a rack..........
