Whats a GB500 worth?
« on: February 25, 2015, 07:43:11 AM »
Theres a really mint low mileage GB500 advertised on Gumtree, at the Mo. Price is £5k  ??? No I am not interested, but just thought I'd put it up here for discussion.
On the same topic, there's an XBR has been for sale in West Yorkshire in Motorcycle Monthly for the last three months. Surely that would have been snapped up straight away!

Morning Tim , 5 mucho grando for the GB sounds about right to me. If it,s in decent condition that is. (Personally I would,nt pay it) and as for XBR prices I get the impression that they are actually starting to drop slightly, at least from the quite high prices that were being asked for them this time last year. Maybe it,s because most of the decent ones have been snapped up and all that remains are scabby wrecks, I still think it,s a case of what any given person is willing to pay at any given time. I have about 4mucho grando in my XBR cafe racer but wether it,s worth that if I put it up for sale is another ?? . Maybe I shud stick it on fleabay to find out. Regards Michael

The Classic crowd have now found the GB and prices have shot up recently. You are probably looking around £2000 for a runner 'in need of attention'  £3000 for a tidy one and £4-5000 for a really nice 'minter'. I recall a brand new zero mileage one sold at the Stafford auction last year for about £10,000!! :o

XBR prices are a bit more modest. Although basically the same bike ( I always think of the GB as an XBR in an Armani suit) prices haven't gone as silly but they are going up. A lot of people and dealers are asking GB money for XBR's but they don't sell - one was asking £3500 for one a year ago and I think still has it.  Realistically, prices that people actually pay seem to be around £600 - £800 for a runner needing restoration, £900 - £1300 for a tidy one, £1500-1700 for a nice one with lowish miles and original bits - Honda exhaust, seat hump etc. The odd really nice one might make £2000.

I'm waiting for the classic crowd to find the XBR too!

Prices for XBR's are not too bad with a really good one for around £2000, but I think the GB's are becoming very over priced at around £4000. Makes me wonder what they would be worth in 20 years time with all the classics collectors.
Reminds me of my Norton 850 I bought in 1989 £1600 and it was a good example, I look at the prices now and shudder

The West Yorks XBR if its the same one i have looked at has all the right bits very original and standard plus wire wheels ,has been for sale for about 3 years in a bike shop .The asking price last year was £2500 .It seems if they have the wire wheels they will get the higher price .But on ebay asking £4495 for a comstar wheel one seems a bit over the top

There was one for sale last at £3500 " very rare, very original, collectors item, bid quickly it won't be around for long"  It had the wrong indicators, shocks, pegs, exhaust, paintwork etc etc... it didn't sell suprisingly.

I fully agree with all the above, I managed to pick up an XBR for under £500 recently, a good runner, but well rough  :-\
