Picked this up Yesterday. 1988 with just 17k miles Mots going back to 1998 so suspect mileage is correct. Just MOT'd and good to go. £1500
will gradually convert to GB spec.

That is beautiful. I loved my XBR when I had one. The compact riding position is awesome. Were it not for my knackered shoulders I would have another one any day.

Congratulations Silver, she looks great  Seems a shame to change it as it looks like a nice unmolested example, with a tidy predator exhaust. However, if you do decide to change her, let me know if youve any bits for sale as I'm doing up a few XBRs at the mo, and I'm short a few bits and pieces, such as indicators, top and bottom tail plastics, seat hump etc

Good evening chaps, yes it does look like a very nice well kept bike. It,s a shame I don,t know how to post photo,s on here as I have quite a nice XBR cafe racer which I,m sure some of you would quite like. But like your new purchase silver my bike was in pretty decent condition when I bought it but I wanted to build a cafe racer so strip it I did, the up shot is at least all my parts went to restoring and keeping more XBR,s on the road. Best of luck with the build, oh and if poss keep us updated with some photo,s. Cheers. Michael

Good original examples of XBRs are getting fewer and fewer, as they get changed into cafe racers. This in no way is a criticism, merely an observation. My wife Alison has a lovely XBR cafe racer in bright red with an XL600 barrel, wire wheels, single seat etc. But it started out as a low mileage light blue XBR, of which I'm lead to believe only fifty came into the UK.
Does this matter? I don't really know to be honest.
Price is also an interesting subject at the minute, I think you got a great bike at a good price. Certainly, I was absolutely shocked when I went to our NI version of the NEC show recently, and saw the price of new bikes. An R1 is 16k for the basic model FFS! And I hardley saw a bike for under 10k! Talk about being out of touch

My personal view is that there,s room for everything. Having bought/owned a brand new XBR when they first came out in the 80's I still like to look at a clean standard bike from time to time, but biking to me is about freedom of expression (in many ways) so by the same token I love to see any bike that has been altered to suit it,s owners/riders own style. I remember reading an article way back in which  Enzo Ferrari said his cars were not built to be stared at in some museum but to be driven like the were designed. With passion. Bikes were designed to ultimately be ridden so that I think is wot we shud all be doing as much as is humanly possible, non of us are getting any younger and when we,re gone not many people will give a hoot about the bikes we leave behind.  Regards Michael

Wrong! Its a 95 TRX850. Cost me £850, but i have gradually modified it.
Currently has CBR600 front end with cartridge forks, R6 Keis rear shock.
Big bore headers (2 into 1), FCR41's (flatslide carbs, std keihins are 38mm), Pod filters. Recently added programmable ignitech ignition. The fairing and seat unit are Harris. Had it on the road last year but it guzzles so much fuel i keep it just for
trackdays.

It's good to see a nicely kept or restored old bike, but these days what draws my attention most of all at the various tea stops, is something a bit special. As in where some work has gone into it, design wise and build quality. Then again even the condition doesn't matter really. If it's a one off and ridden well that's great.
