And there it was.... gone...
Christmas...
the contents of my wine rack
the contents of a barrel of Abbot Ale
the contents of my wallet
the contents of the fridge & freezer
the log pile has disappeared...

only 360 days to the next money drain.... tempted to give it all to medicine sans frontiers next year... and go and kip in my shepherds hut for a week!

At the risk of starting something untoward  ??? - A happy Christmas to you all!!

Don't fret Richard, you weren't the only one working Christmas.

PS you have your dates wrong me thinks -

Cf: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturnalia

Very interesting link. Thanks for posting it. To be fair though, it seems the Roman empire itself later amended the date.

This may throw a different light on the subject :-
"The festival of natalis Invicti [Birth of the Unconquerable (Sun)], held on 25 December, was a general festival of the Sun, and by no means specific to the Mysteries of Mithras."
Look up Mithras.
This could be something in the beginings of Masonism?

Be careful googleing masonism. One typo at work and you'll be chatting to HR. Better than telling the wife mind.

Reminds me of an old rhyme:

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but whips and chains excite me  :o

Aye Steve,
You'ld be fine if the temperatures stayed mild for you, but I doubt our -7C early last night would please you. The barrel of Abbot would keep you warm though!  ;) The log pile 'll no be as cheap these days to replace either, going for silly money up here unless you have 'alternative' supplies!  :(
Fortunate not to encounter the motor Min acquired either!
Keep fit and healthy.

My regards, Bill

aye Bill... all well here... I mainly grow my own wood... ( which is just as well, as a 'load' is £80 to £100 now, and I reckon that I'd need 8 loads to see me through....  'load' is a subjective term round here... vary in size and quality hugely!)  and I look after the IT at Greene King.... so Abbot in plentiful supply :-)
all in all a good situation to be in :-)...

not back at work 'til the 5th... so fighting off cabin fever....  -5 is the lowest we've had.... cold enough for us East Angles
