Projects/Trips for the New Year
« on: January 02, 2014, 11:04:41 AM »
Hi,
I am planning on resurrecting one of two stoke zombies and putting the yellow peril back on the road.
I am hoping for a trip to Scotland, maybe one to Ireland with the boy on the back.

What have you guys got planned

After sourcing some much needed parts, I'm going to refurbish the XBR, and as it is now my only bike, to put in more miles than I did last year.

Sticking to the Wee unless cash and time for MZ restorations becomes available.

Nothing planned yet, but I've been plotting a trip up to the Commando memorial for years. (Steff, PM me if a nights lodging here abouts would be useful on your way up or down (assuming you don't mind the Wifes menagerie), you can do the Peaks one day and the North Yorks Moors the next, but we'll skip the "Historic Market Town" (with historic charity shops to stand outside drinking historic special brew) the tourist board came up with!)

I also fancy doing a ride down to Lands End while I've got a silly-speed capable bike.

I'm determined to do more of the nice short rides that involve a cake or beer at the end. My Elefant/Dragon sort of stuff is off the list for now.

I have a "significant" birthday coming up as do a few mates, so drinking and taking Karen places to make up for it might get in the way.

To get the XBR back on the road!  It's been in the garage for the last 2 years  ( yes I am hanging my head in shame  :-[) and now steadfastly refuses to start!  >:( >:(

I'll be pressing on with project Z, but not too optimistic it'll be rolling for November. :-[

Trips wise, I'm hoping to get out on the Wee amongst the wild places of Britain for some hill walks and adventures. I think this year is going to be a tight one financially in the Squirrel household, so big trips abroad are out of the question, but a weekend in the Lake District or the Peaks should be doable.

I've got a car based road trip planned from Qatar to northern Oman, via Saudi Arabia and the UAE, in April. It will hopefully be an exploratory jaunt prior to a full-blown lads bike trip in the Autumn. This is slightly predicated upon actually buying a bike which I have been prevaricating over for most of the time I've been here. There are plenty of bikes for sale but they are like chalk and cheese - either full-blown dress Harleys and mental Superbikes or high spec., non-road legal, race replica MX bikes or totally f'ed pizza delivery 125s. I'm looking for a 200-400cc with some off road capability but they are very hard to find.

PS Happy New Year to you all!

Get my 1JK Monoshock conversion on the road. http://srx600.blogspot.co.uk/. First step is to complete the build and run it through the summer to ensure it all works well then strip for paint next winter.
