Yamaha fazer fuel delivery problem?
« on: December 18, 2013, 09:46:24 PM »
Hi All, Any similar experience or advice would be apreciated
I have recently bought a second hand fazer. Generally rides great but a possible fuel supply fault. Whenever accelerator is applied it flies and wants to go. The problem appears when aproaching junctions, roundabouts the engine warning light appears orange. As second after accelerating through it goes out. Once hot the engine will idle sluggishly. If i switch off ignition the pump will recharge then idle as expected. I have stripped the tank and fuel pump to check for blockage at filter pick up. all clear and all wiring appears sound and free of any furring up.
Is there an electronic box that governs timing or is the pump defective? Anything else to check?
Cheers

My zzr was fine when cold, but once warmed up the oil light would come on at idle, and go off over about 1500 revs. The low fuel lights would flash in sympathy as well.I ignored it for a while, then fitted a new oil pressure switch. It works fine now.So try a new pressure switch???

Is it the oil light we're talking about? If the fazer is anything like the fzr models and lots, of not all yamahas, then the oil light is a level warning and not pressure. My fzr1000 is very sensitive in that the oil level warning comes on at speed, when the oil level sight glass shows about half full.

As Propellor says, in common with the Fazer 1000 and Diversion (and others), the oil must be all the way to the top of the glass or the light will come on.  And it definitely is only a level switch, not pressure.

tj63 and propellor are both right its an oil level not pressure light, on my fazer 1000 scared the f*ck out of me first time it came on.
Usually the rev counter on yamahas do strange things when first started, which they are designed to do, to let mechanic know if there are any problems, such as exup valve sticking.
I presume yours is a fuel injected model?

Thanks guys.
It is the fuel injected version, I fully serviced it after buying so all serviceable parts replaced and oil is full. The light is i think? an engine management light? orange when lit not red with engine sign. Bike is still riding fine with no mechanical failure just an irritating intermittent electrical fault. Have checked all levels etc good. Thinking maybe the alternator is on its way out so on approach to junctions the revs aren't sufficient to charge or as first thought fuel delivery is not high enough?
