XBR Exhausts

After a long search on the internet came across the motad site dropped them a line about XBR systems .Replied back with good news ,they have been commission by David Silver to build exhaust for Honda XBR .Was informed there will be a 2 in to 1 system and a 2 in to 2 system ,only available from Mr Silver, should be ready for October ;D

we have made a 2-2 stainless system- not a copy of original but made to look similar

now available from David Silver Spares at £399

10 year warranty and normal Motad features which should see it do 2o

The exhausts on my XBR are looking a bit tatty so I checked out the new David Silver ones.  The original Honda units have a connection to the frame at the bottom of the header pipe but this is missing on the DS units and they connect only at the head and the footrest hanger.  So why did Honda add the extra mounting point?  is it that the allow footrest hanger is not strong enough (particularly in fatigue) to take the full weight of the pipe and silencer?  As it happens there is both an original exhaust and the DS system on E-Bay at the moment with pictures to show the difference.

I ran mine without that bracket after I'd cut off the frame brackets when I was racing it. The pipes came loose and nearly fell off.

the bracket is not needed and the Motad comes with a 10 year warranty to back that up

think back to the design of the bike- Japanese engineer looks at twins from the era- BSA and Triumph and copied them in putting a bracket on the pipe- missing completely the point that the Brit bikes vibrated like hell and probably needed three brackets!- and the Honda never did

Without the bottom frame brackets used its an awful lot of weight to put on the cylinder head exhaust port studs-which are tiny in size. I wouldn't want to run a bike without the mountings used. Should be easy enough to attach clamps to the DS system  to use the frame mountings shouldn't it?

Hi All,

The footrest hanger mount is also rubber mounted, the centre mount is to take out the movement of the cans and isolate the exhaust port fixings, it would seem daft to miss out the isolation, the copper rings, clamps and "wee bolts" are not designed for lateral loading.

After a lot of should i or what if ....me being a Yorkshire man decided to source my own parts and build my own .Header pipe 2 in to 1 came of German eBay no problem payment was easy and quick, quality of the pipe is top notch .A ring round local exhaust places found a fabricator to make my bespoke link pipe .New exhaust gaskets of eBay were got and a universal slip on can .In total £353 sent for a full stainless system giving my XBR a very personal touch ,a very happy man indeed . :D roll on the summer

Yes, tis me, having trouble with the 20year gap between Triumph/Bsa/other British iron suitable to criticise and Honda who cared so little for engineering principles that they casually stuck a useless mounting on an exhaust for no reason. Are we this gullible? Off back to lurking, hope to see you soon.

The problem is that with the rear rubber mounted the movement works the front clamps loose - the front clamps are all that there is to hold the exhaust in place and there is a lot of weight on them. On mine I fixed the problem by welding the mounts back on the frame, the stainless downpipes that I had made have those brackets, I can't believe that it would add a great deal of cost to have the brackets.

The system my bike came with was Gazelle 2 into 2 ,cost the previous owner £305.05 p back in 1995 .The pipes fasten to the exhaust ports and the original mounting on the foot rest hanger In the 2 years i have had the bike they have never caused  a problem .Only problem is were the hanger straps fasten to the exhausts they have started to pull away ,had one welded up at the begin of the year but both need looking at now .Still work OK not noisy but burbles  and pops on the over run quite a nice sound actually  :)

you have to go back and remember that their engineers had just come out the saga of the VF750 engine failures and they were being mega carefull- and I have a VFR750 fj to show just what great bike they then started producing on the back of all this double engineering and over supply of compenents just to make treble sure

my view is a very biased one- but we have produced this 2-2 purely in response to demand from owners- so at least there is an option !

I ran a couple of XBRs.
One with a 2-1 front pipe and several different silencers,therefore different weights.
All without the bracket at the frame rail......never had a problem !

And the early VF750s were Bloody Awful !!!!  Total Sh1te !
