sr4oo kickstart only?

As the title says really. There are a couple of nice ones on Bike Trader and I just wondered if they are like the sr500.

SRXs are a completely different animal. 4 valve head v 2 valve, twin carbs/twin pipes v single, Balance shaft in the SRX which is evident. The only thing is that the SR500 has that "je ne sais quoi" that the SRX doesnt have. As the man says... you pay your money and take your choice.

My Opinion only, having restored 5 SRXs and 2 SRs (1 500 and 1 400)

Thanks Mark. I ask about whether they are kickstart only as I've got a knackered right knee and would prefer a bike with an electric start as an everyday bike.

The SR400 and  500 are basically the same, kickstart only but from what I've seen do not take a great deal of effort if you have the know how. I've seen owners show off by operating the kickstart by hand.

By hand! That would suggest they are fairly low compression. I can kick up my GN400 ok for maybe two or three starts but if I do a trip to work via the garage and the shops and if it doesn't start  first time each time by the time I get there my knee is on fire. Hence the two thumper Yam with its blessed electric start.

SRs are definitely not for those with a bad knee.

I'm beginning to think that anything with a kickstart isn't for my knee. I may look in to building an xt600e engined special as I love thumpers but my bad knee is on my short legs so trailies are also out.
