(xbr500 head). is there a place hants area that can bore the barrel and flow the head. cheers

for the bore work you could try Saunders a small engineering company in Cadnum near southampton.
ive had work done before by PJ Motorcycle engineers on my old KR1-S and their work was very good.

whoa whoa whoa whoa, (sweet child of mine) hang on a moment. what are you trying to achieve here? why do you want to bore the barrel? if you have a big bore piston? is it right for your engine? why do you want to flow the head? do you understand these terms? are you just saying that you want to flow the head and bore the barrel because thats what you have heard you need to do to go faster?
the first thing you need to do before tuning an engine, any engine, is to understand why you are tuning it? do you want more power? do you want more torque? where in the rev range do you want it? do you understand the relationship between power and torque? have you factored in carburation exhaust and ignition requirements for the tuning you want to do? sorry to seem to bombard you with technical terminoligy, but everything in tuning engines is technical terminoligy, and you could well spend a fortune and end up with less power less torque and poor reliability. from your original post it appears that you havent got much of a clue about  engine tuning, with that in mind are you really sure that you want to start throwing money at an engine tuning job when you dont understand how and why tuning works?
sorry if this sounds like im pissing on your bonfire, but even on a single like an xbr you can spend many hundreds and gain perhaps 5 or 6 bhp.
and im assuming you are fitting an xbr engine in its entirity into a cb250rs, cos from your post it sounds like you have a barrel and head that you plan to fit to an rs250!
before you spend a bean, tell us exactly what you have and exactly what you want to end up with,

It also seems that you want a bigger bore than the barrel will put up with. The xbr isn't all that strong to start with and famously detonates when overstressed. And given that the head is probably cracked already, it doesn't make a lot of sense to take more metal out of it. If you want more power, get more cylinders. An xbr will never produce as much power as a Japanese four.

number1 ive been running a xbr500 engine in a rs since 2005. number 2 my engine got ring blow and the topend was fucked so i got a spare which has a leaking center gasket so has to be split so if im going to that trouble i wanted to spend some dosh. number 3 yes im new to engine building but i have good m8s with racing outboard backgrounds and a service book so im safe. number4 im not after power as such cos the xbr was fast enough in the rs i just want it to run right regarding air fuel mixture which is carb and inlet. thanks

i would also like to add the xbr is not a weak engine with a blown piston a worn head and a camshaft with more ridges than the alps it would still run and still do 60. that my friend is bomb proof. all my fault missing oil checks and ragging the shit off it. and power wise in the rs 60mph in second was the norm. the reason im spending money on this engine is not power its to control myself. even when run in i aint goner race or speed cos i know how much time and money it took. now you can help or keep pionting out stuff. either way its goner happen. this will be a 599cc cb250rs. i dont care if its powerfull hey its a single the sound can be my cheap thrills. time to hang up the gloves drink tea and be a old man

Hi mate I think I left you a message on youtube, letting you know how its all done, a simple rebore is needed to fit the 101mm piston, dont bother about flowing the head, its a complicated process and unless you know what you are doing you could end up loosing power. Its all very straight forward, fit the piston to the conrod slide over the rebored barrel bolt on the head.

thank you. i think you are on about jullian redwood on you tube. i am in contact with also surpose to be going for a ride with this summer. sorry if i was a bit narked. i just remeber posting on this forum way back in 05 asking about xbr fitment in the rs. god didnt i get some abuse. also may of found 2 more engines. one siezed for spares and one complete. that would give me 4 bottom ends and 2 topends. might get depends how long the con-rod takes hot rod from tnt racing. they say its coming from italy. i smell crap i thought usa. thanks again

Does the RS chassis need much modification ?. I fitted and XL500 engine to an RS some years ago, the only real issues were clearance for the rocker cover head steady and the underneath of the petrol tank.

ive got an RS with an XL/FT engine in it.

front engine mount is removed to closer to the back of the tank.
and the tank needs a scallop/dent put in it to clear properly.

I've got a CB500RS and I've done a couple of videos on Youtube, the obvious problems with this conversion are as you say top engine mount and underside of tank, the other problems are which carb to use and what exhaust fits. I had an FT500 carb for a while but had a lot of problems with it, are they all that troublesome? Its now got a Mikuni TM40 which i think is a bit big, if anyone's got any better ideas i'd like to hear them. I've fabricated my own exhaust but i'm thinking of changing it this winter.
It does 100mph and wheelies in third so i dont think i'll be doing any tuning just yet.

That should be about right the right size for a tuned motor.
