For the Breathalizer the project seems to abort too. French government asked for a new study.

The new hobby for the mayor of Paris is to ban old motorbikes from the city. He thinks a bike with 4 liters per 100 km consumption releases more C02 than a brand new Porsche Cayenne ....

Not really actually : the fee for non-possession of a breatalizer is suspended for a while. A group of expert (50 experts : they'll have difficulties to find agreements I suppose) will study its efficiency. It is the same for the Viz.

23% of the road killed are motorbikers in France : the government won't give up with silly mesures (I am thinking of the Viz). For instance they want to impose bigger immatriculation plate (licence plate ?) at the rear of the bike. Is it really safier ? Will it save my life in case of accident ? No it will just permit the speed radars to better read it and to tax more.

Well I imagine that english (and german) riders know what I am talking about.

We've asked for years for less VAT on safety equipment (helmets, boots, gloves) to have a better protection.

One good thing with the EEC is the abolition of the maximum power of bikes limited to 100 HP in France. I personally don't care about it because my SRXes are 45HP but we will have the real engines.

Why do riders want to be invisible anyway? Are they happy to die for fashion? I got tired of people saying 'Sorry, I didn't see you' and started wearing fluoro vests some time ago. They work. The fluoro green is particularly good because cops here wear that shade. Drivers don't mind killing bikies, but it's illegal to kill a cop and when their little brains register that colour they go 'COP!' and ease off.

No one wants to be invisible. They are not telling car drivers to festoon their vehicles with day-glo.

Imagine going into a car dealer and be told that you can have your new car in any colour you like so long as it is day-glo yellow or green or orange.

If you choose to wear it, that is your decision and should remain your decision. We are far too over governed and over legislated.

We want a society in which people take responsibility for themselves and then government insist on taking away that responsibility.
Statistically more people die in bed than anywhere else - I don't see them banning them anytime soon. In short politically motivated lies are just that no matter how many numbers you stick in front of them to justify them. 

IMHO people should be largely left to themselves, so long as they are not meddling with kids or disturbing the horses.

We don't need to be watched all the time and we don't need any blasted day-glo. What we need is to be left to go about our day to day lives in peace without being interfered with by bureaucrats and people who feel that the only way to justify the money they take home every month is to generate more and more intrusive legislation.

More car drivers die from head injuries than bikers. Should they be made to wear helmets? (They have to when racing).

As an ancient fireman, I would agree with GB500. The more you are visible, the more you minimize the risks.

But as a latin(lover) and french I loved stephan's tirade for freedom.

But in name of freedom, french riders do anything. Anyone driving in the suburb of Paris knows what I am talking about ....

Talking about the cops : they have real rider's garments only for a few months/years. In summer they keep on riding in shirt and use synthetic trousers that don't resist in case of falling. They have to fight for safety equipment. Money money.
