Hi All, New member intro
« on: November 26, 2012, 11:17:56 PM »
Evening all. Just signed up as I just agreed to buy a mate's early SRX6 That has been in the back of his garage with an undisclosed electrical issue for a few years.

Its a little tired and scruffy in a few places (so it should at least match its new owner :) ) but basically a sound bike. Hopefully the electrical gremlin should be straightforward to fix and I'll have a good starting point for a sweet little cafe racer project.

I've grown up riding big 4 cylinder bikes (mainly Kawasaki's as youve probably guessed by the nametag) with the odd quirky option like a guzzi v11 thrown in but the only experience i've had with a single was an ill fated relationship with a dramatically flawed brand new ccm r30.

Well thats it, I'll bung up some pics of the little yam on sunday when I collect her.

Cheers
Dave

Aye Dave,

Welcome to the old club chairs, sometimes lewd and libellous commentary, with innuendo ( see what I mean?) and a general healthy dose of cynicism and camaraderie.  ;)

If we can help or offer direction, we'll try.

Have a look at SteveH's site for a whole load of specific information and use the 'Search' on the top left of this site.

Good health, Bill.

Cheers Bill, that one was in my favourites already (in fact, it directed me here!).

First priority will be to get it running and sorted, then I'll strip it down and get the frame and swingarm powdercoated and a respray is on the cards. I'm thinking of one of the ricambi-weiss seat units and some rear set footpegs too.

Any recommendations rear set wise?

oh yeah?... your mate told you that did he... just before you gave hime the dosh no doubt?..  ;D

Well, lets hope so... you're in the right place for support, should you need a nice colour circuit diagram i have it on file, and can email it to you (4 a4 pages you need to stick together once printed)... and i think there's someone here who has the service manual on cd (i did have a copy, but in my usual fashion it's disappeared... i'm sure there's someone near me quietly building an srx with all the bits i can't find in my garage)

anyway, welcome to the coven known as 'The Thumper Club' you don't by any chance live in the East or South East?... or are you in the West where the strange and secretive members of TC only come out at night to dabble in the black arts of old camping stoves, tilley lamps and land rovers.... be warned. ;)

I did have that thought about the electrics, but fortunately a mate is a bit of a dab hand with the sparky bits and will hopefully sort it for me. I know I'd have no idea, its bloody witchcraft that stuff isnt it?

I'm over in the flatlands of east anglia, live in Norwich and work out towards Snetterton. Which is handy when I want to give the race bike a bit of a run out. :)

Those seat units are good, I had one on my racer.

I think I have a set of plates for the SRX chassis (also for the racer).  Not sure what the pattern was, they were on there when I bought it.  Possibly Raask.

Not comfy mind!

The wheels forks, yokes & brakes are 3TJ FZR400RR.

Not sure if I can find those plates, but they may be under the bench.  Drop me a line if/ when you need,

cheers

Hi ZXRRDave
Welcome aboard. Excellent little club, loads of information freely given, idle banter a plenty, country wide meet-ups, rallies etc. etc.

You've got a few dark months to get it road worthy and then who knows.........Good Luck with it.

Regards
Boyd

Cheers for the welcome lads and lasses, its most appreciated.

As for the dark winter months, much as I'd like to get the srx tip top in time for spring the first priority is my ZXR race bike which has to be finished by the 18th march......

Seems like a long time, but it really isnt.
