Which Choke Cable? CBX Bars on an XBR500.
« on: September 25, 2012, 04:33:34 PM »
I've just bought a pair of CBX550 bars to fit on the XBR. Has anyone else done this conversion, and if so, what is the best way around the choke cable problem?
The standard one is too short.
Kelly.

Cables aren't all that hard to make up yourself. The choke one is standard pushbike cable and outer, and the bike shop will also have adjusters and the brass end bits. Silver solder is the dog's bollix for this but hard lead solder [not the electrical stuff] works well. For the latter, get a 3/4" galv pipe cap, put it on a brick, heat it with a torch and fill it with solder. Assemble the cable, terminals etc and fray the cable ends so the terminals won't fall off.  Heat a cable end and terminal with the torch and dip that in acid flux paste then dip in the molten lead until you see it wick up the cable a bit. Clean it up with a file or something.
